I am starting to lose the plot, have just had full week of rubbish sleep (I'm 28 wks with my first) I go off fine, but then wake up about 2am and just lie there, nothing I do seems to work I've tried lavender and pillows between my knees, baths, hot milk, music, getting up, not getting up, but I just seem to end up spiralling off in my mind, worry about everything and just get really frustrated that I'm not asleep!!!! I know that it's probabaly only gonna get worse when the baby actually arrives, and I'm so worried i won't be able to cope as I seem to be cracking after only a week of disrupted sleep.

cupcake - I sympathise with IF - starting to feel like nothing in there and I'm due this week too!!! I think our bodys are just ready to start looking after little person now

Hi there, i'm new to this and am so relived that i'm not the only one wide awake most of the night!! I know people tell you that sleep is minimal during late stages of pregnancy (i'm just over 36 weeks now), but they NEVER said you'd average 3 hours a night!!

i spent most of last night licking boxes in my head as to what i have got/done yet for the baby.. the insecurities just make you more anxious, so i'm hoping this site will take my mind off things!

Does anyone have any top tips for encouraging baby to get in the right position for birth???

sarahloumadam · 23/09/2007 10:10

Mine - I have heard that sticking a load of pillows under your bum and lying down with your hips elevated for at least half hour a day or resting on your knees and elbows, bum in air can give the baby the opportunity to turn around. Not sure why or how. Have you been told that your baby is not head down?

We are moving soon and my latest 3 o'clock anxiety attack was how to stop the LO trapping his fingers in the doors (new house with self-closing doors)!

Going to try some of that tranquility tea Flimflam!

flimflammum · 23/09/2007 10:59

Hello again fellow insomniacs. News update from me: I've been drinking the Tranquillity tea for a week now and it's done the trick - slept from 11.30-6.30 last night .

Re getting the baby into the right position, look at www.spinningbabies.com for some expert advice.

betsycoe · 24/09/2007 05:47

Hi all insomniacs! I hope you are all managing to get some sleep now...

I don't want to hijack this thread with my home birth story so I will start a new one in the child birth section.

For what it's worth I found I had periods of insomnia throughout my pregnancy. The only thing that helped was getting up for an hour and trying again. As they say, all good practice for looking after your little one!

Mine · 24/09/2007 06:04

thanks for the tips sarah and flimflam..... the bum in the air thing helps move the baby if he/she is stubbornly resting on my bladder

sarahloumadam · 24/09/2007 18:51

You are welcome mine !

flimflam v. re your uninterrupted sleep. Now if only I could find a cure for my pregnancy brain I would remember to pick up some tea!

gingermumi · 25/09/2007 11:19

Haven't slept well all the way through (am now 22 weeks). In all the books it says that you've suffer insomnia later in pregnancy but it's lie i tell you! Doc has given me mild sleeping tablets (which i don't like taking) but tbh they don't work that well. Where can you get tranquility tea? Is it widely availbale or an on-line job? Have now been signed off for two weeks as ankles are like elephants', blood pressure creeping up, puking back and sugar in urine. Midwife cross 'cos i cancelled two appointments but work was busy and she only has one clinic (how stupid is that). Gp says all niggles are down to tiredness and if i don't rest then i'll get proper poorly! I don't know what the answers are but i guess getting a rest when you can is the best thing.

Good luck ladies and let me know about the tea! Ta

mellymooks · 25/09/2007 20:59

Hi gingermumi, you can get the tea at any health food shop and poss even posh supermarket such as waitrose! Sorry to hear you're having such a rough time, when are you starting mat. leave?
I know it's hard when work is busy and pressured but you must look after you and your little one you're the most important ones!
I've just been on a hypnobirthing course which was a bit of a mixed bag, but they give you a cd (which I think you can buy without doing the course) which I've found brilliant, I put it on when I'm trying to go to sleep and the last two nights I've slept more than I have in the last month, so would highly recommend, it's really positive and I think some of it must be sinking in subliminally because I've felt so positive and calm when I've woken up (but I guess that could just be due to sleeping better!!)
Hope you feel better soon

Hello all. Not such a great night last night but I think that was because I was worrying about an appointment with a consultant I had today (to discuss risks of home VBAC - but that's for another thread).

I bought the Dr Stuart's Tranquillity tea in Sainsbury's - hope it works for you Gingermumi.

gingermumi · 26/09/2007 14:14

Thanks for kind words and advice will try to get some today.

Thanks again.
