Hello there,

I was wondering if somebody could help me please.

What do you need in the changing table?

Ie. I know wash newborn with cotton wool and water but do I need to buy sudocrem, calpol anything else?

I have a nasal aspiration, thermometer etc but it’s more of the medication type of things I’m stuck on!

Thanks so much.

Bepanthen, nappy sacks, wipes

7Worfs · 16/04/2020 19:31

Nappies, wipes, muslin to pat baby dry after wipes, Bepanthen (I find it better than Sudocrem if there is no rash).

Sally872 · 16/04/2020 19:31

Dummies, teething gel and baby nail clippers are handy to have in before you decide you need them.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/04/2020 19:33

Mat. Wipes. Nappies. Sudocreme. Nappy sacks. Bin next to it. Hand towel to lay on mat.

I never kept any meds on it - they went in the medicine box (Nurofen and calpol).

I also never used a change table. I had a box full of the stuff and a sponge mat which lived in the lounge then came to bed with me.

Have you considered cheeky wipes? They are reusable. We've saved a fortune since switching! Kind on baby's bum too and I need less than half the amount of normal wipes that I'd need when it's a poo.

firstimemamma · 16/04/2020 19:36

Also we have 2 nappy changing baskets - one for upstairs and one for downstairs which made life easier.

PigInASlanket · 16/04/2020 19:36

Do you need a bucket etc for cheeky wipes? Just because I change in bedroom, her room, lounge, out and about... not sure how it works.

Thanks so much everyone - big help!

I have on mine at the moment (He's 15 months but most has been there since birth):

Bepanthen
Sudocreme
Baby oil
Baby moisturiser
Baby wipes
Nose vacuum cleaner (don't know the actual name!)
Nurofen for kids
Teething gel (without lidocaine - this is important it shouldn't be used under 2 years)
Vitamin D liquid
Suncream factor 50
Hair brush
Some sterile gauze (different sizes)
Sterile saline solution (I think they're 2 or 3 ml)
Octinosept (I'm not in UK and can't remember the name of it in English but we used it on his umbilical cord stump when it got a bit red and also on my c section incision)
Urine collection pouch for baby boy
Urine sample tube
Nappies!
Some other medications like syrup for coughs suitable for babies.

I hope this stays as a list. The app is rubbish for it!

Good luck!

Yellow metanium is the best bum cream by far. You only need a tiny bit.

Calpol

Get cheeky wipes which you can wash and reuse. No need for cotton wool and they last years.

YakkityYakYakYak · 16/04/2020 19:44

Our changing table (10 month old) is currently stocked with:

  • cheeky wipes
  • water wipes for when I forget to wash the cheeky wipes
  • angelcare nappy bin liners
  • nappies obviously
  • metanium nappy rash cream
  • comb
  • nail clippers and scissors
  • emollient (for eczema, just get if needed)
  • sun cream
  • teething gel
  • calpol
  • saline nasal spray and nose sucker
  • calpol plug in and refills
YakkityYakYakYak · 16/04/2020 19:45

Oh and coconut oil which is good for cradle cap, but you can just buy this if you need it

Selfsettling3 · 16/04/2020 19:45

Calpol and nurofen for when they are older but to be kept in the cupboard.
I only use cotton wool and water, wet wipes (water wipes for first few months), bepanthen cream and the yellow mentanium for nappy rash.
Lots of muslin.

1st don,t have a changing table as bulky and unessesery, Have a ching set up stairs and down. So have mat, water, coton wool, Washable wipes. Nappies. ( I prefer cloth so liners and boosters and wraps to go with.0 A tup of everyday cream, such as sudocream, Green baby nappy balm or such and a tube of metanium for when sore. Also if doing cloth you want a nappy bag/ pail to put nappies in. If doing disp chuck outside as soon as you can.
Calpol in Cubboard, Didn,t really need mine to teath and ingejections.

HarrietM87 · 16/04/2020 20:09

Another vote for cheeky wipes! Also get a proper Braun in ear thermometer - you won’t regret it when you’re panicking thinking your tiny baby might have a temperature. The forehead scanning ones are less reliable.

Hercwasonaroll · 16/04/2020 20:34

I don't bother with nappy sacks either. Just go straight outside. Now I'm using cloth anyway.

Agree with those saying just have 2 changing stations and not a table. If you have a table put it downstairs.

Selfsettling3 · 16/04/2020 21:11

I disagree with changing table. I got one for my second child and I wondered why I didn’t have one with my first.
