JOIE isofix 360 car seat VS normal car seat

FirstTM2020 · 16/04/2020 14:29

So... just purchased JOIE 360 isofix spin car seat and put it in yesterday.... stupidly we thought it would come off the base and be able to use it as a normal car seat... i.e- carrying in to grandparents house, going shopping etc etc.

However it does not... so QUESTION

when the baby is travelling in the car and we have to get out to put him in the pram (carry cot) or in a sling would this be very disruptive for him?

Sorry first timer here and worried he will be unsettled getting in and out of pram when we could just get a normal car seat and he would just sit in it during visits to our famillies etc?

Thank you xx

That's what we had, and it was fine. Got LO out of car seat straight into bassinet of pram or, most often, into the sling. Never woke her up, I think because she was used to it from the off!

GlassHouseYouGlassHouse · 16/04/2020 14:32

It was also helpful as they are not meant to stay in the car seat for more than 30 min when newborn so we would have had to get her out anyway.

acquiescence · 16/04/2020 14:33

Yes, it will be disruptive for him, but depends on the baby and how you travel as to how much. With my children we had a maxi cosi seat that you lift out for the first year or so then swapped to the joie360. The 360 is a great car seat but I found it helpful to be able to carry the car seat inside and let them continue sleeping when they were tiny. Also descends whether you want to transfer it onto a pram base or not.

Elephantonascooter · 16/04/2020 14:35

We started off with a maxi cosi that lifted out and by 3 months old we switched to the 360 spin. Like pp said, it's what they're used to from the off

ShyTown · 16/04/2020 14:37

I think you made a sensible purchase by opting for a seat that will serve you through to the toddler years. Small babies aren’t supposed to spend too long in car seats anyway. I actually had a lie flat infant seat and I still never managed to successfully remove it from the car without waking up DD!

PleaseStopCrying · 16/04/2020 14:39

I wish more car seats were like the 360 spin it woupd stop people leaving their little babies in them so long.

We've had the spin since day one and it's a great car seat. DS has never woken up when we took him out of it, I suspect he was just used to it.

RhymingRabbit3 · 16/04/2020 14:41

You can only really carry them around in the carseat for the first few weeks anyway, as it gets too big and cumbersome to carry around.
They're not supposed to be in the car seat for more than 30 minutes anyway so it's not ideal for them to sit in it during visits to family, better to take them out to lie on a blanket on the floor or be held.

The Joie 360 is great. We had one from when my DD was about 5 months. If I had my time again I wouldnt bother with with the baby carrier traditional car seat and just go straight to the 360 or similar.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 16/04/2020 14:41

I think it would good to discourage them napping for too long in a car seat. They really shouldn’t be in them for too long. If your LO is used to being moved, they’ll likely continue sleeping.

Natsku · 16/04/2020 14:42

They're not supposed to be in car seats for long anyway so it's better if you can't carry them in it even if it's less convenient

Disruptive how? As in, if they're asleep? Some kids happily sleep while being tugged about (young babies especially) and some don't.

We have this exact car seat and it's never been an issue. I can't even really remember any times where they fell asleep in the car and then had to be taken out in a situation where we desperately didn't want to wake them.

ICantBelieveInYou · 16/04/2020 14:57

And if they're awake then.. I don't really know what disruptive means! Just take them out, have a cuddle, and put them in pram. Easy.

Guys thank you so much this has been really helpful as a first time mum... i really appreciate all your comments💕

As for the women that wrote back trying to be rude and make me feel like a tit.. makes you look a total fool making new mums feel like that.

This was not at all what i meant im new to all this and didn't want to be cruel on the baby by disturbing him but i realise life has to go on and he will be easily settled again just as easy as i unsettle him transferring him in to the pram etc so its no problem at all if he wakes up just.

Thanks again guys very helpful and i'm chuffed i've bought it and got it all set up 🥰

Sounds like you are very organised. Just don't forget to practice adjusting the straps and clipping a doll or teddy in before the big day arrives. Hindsight is a wonderful thing... Wink

FirstTM2020 · 16/04/2020 17:04

@PleaseStopCrying well i can always trial it with our beagle dog 🤣💁🏽‍♀️

I sure will.. It's like starting from scratch none of my friends have kids, no babies in the family so i'm literally having to research and ask daft questions to get educated deary me 🤷🏽‍♀️

I thought being a nurse this stuff would just come naturally but here I am 🤦🏽‍♀️

With my first DD the carry seat was useful as I couldn't drive, but would walk places and get a lift/taxi back.

With DD2 it was useful as you couldn't take a pram into toddler groups, so it was somewhere to put her while I was dealing with DD1 (there wasn't always a bouncer available). However she was often passed around staff/mums/childminders as everyone enjoyed a baby snuggle if their toddler was occupied.

Midlifebaby · 16/04/2020 23:52

I got that car seat for our granddaughter (yup, the inspiration to our midlife crisis I mean midlife baby Smile we found it very easy to use and love the spin as a back saver! however for our new baby I got a Jane Transporter bassinet as before the lockdown we go out of London on the weekend which is about 1 1/2 h drive, too far for a baby to be in a car seat x I’m still glad I’ve got it as it can be popped onto the pushchair frame and we can move the baby without having to wake it up. X

Umnoway · 17/04/2020 09:09

We started with an infant maxi cosi we could lift in and out so we didn’t have to wake him every time we needed to get him out. We switched to the Joie when he was about 14 months old.

Caspianberg · 17/04/2020 10:57

We have also bought a fixed newborn to toddler type seat for new baby. I can't see we would ever need to take car seat out unless for travel overseas (which can't happen now anyway).

Everything I have read has suggested 30 mins max time for newborn in seat, so by the time we drive anywhere even local they should be taken out anyway and into sling, arms, pram. As even a 15 min drive each way would equate to that, not leaving any time to actually stay in seat on arrival.

I also think the seats are really heavy. I tried lifting an empty cybex z the other month before we ordered as that comes out and rotates, and it weighed a ton without baby in it. And of course a newborn weighs far less than say a 6-12 month old so the thought of lugging it in and out car onto pram put me off. I also read if any birth injuries or c section you shouldnt lift anything heavier than baby the first 6-8 weeks as well.

FirstTM2020 · 17/04/2020 11:17

Thank you very much, again really helpful 💕
