Decreased movement 21+2

I have an anterior placenta.
I only started to feel strong movements last week.

Last week baby seemed to kick and move morning and night.

Yesterday I had very few and light movements all day, but I felt some.

Today I haven't woken up to movement.

Currently isolating because my partner came down with a fever last week, which developed into a nasty cough. Though I don't think it's CV.

Should I be concerned this early on when a pattern hasn't really developed yet?

I think I remember it being more of a concern after 24 weeks when a pattern is properly established but absolutely call and ask for advice if something feels wrong to you

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/04/2020 09:16

Yes, please call the MW if you ever have decreased or increased movements.

toomuchteaandcake · 16/04/2020 09:17

Best to call and take the expert advice, all trusts seem to have a slightly different approach. at 21 weeks with my anterior placenta I was only starting to feel the odd kicks and definitely no pattern, but everyone is different

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/04/2020 09:17

Count the Kicks is a good resource, but absolutely no substitute for talking to you MW Smile

I'm 21 weeks with an anterior placenta and I rarely feel movements I think it's more of a concern after 24 weeks

Pineappletree33 · 16/04/2020 09:21

I would lean towards saying it’s normal at this stage. When pregnant with my dd some days I’d feel her others I wouldn’t at that stage, scared the life out of me.
However, if you are concerned you should always seek medical advice.

Crackerscheesescabbyknees · 16/04/2020 09:21

Yeah I've not been told that there should be any concerns this early on. I was surprised to start having pronounced movements at 20 weeks with my placenta position. It's just been very noticeable.
Thanks for the advice.

Here, they wouldn't see you. My midwife said 26 weeks plus was when she started to expect a pattern and before that, they're small enough to entirely hide behind an anterior placenta. My first pregnancy had an anterior placenta and between weeks 17 and 25 I had days where I felt her all day and days where I felt nothing at all.

You should definitely ring though.

Umnoway · 16/04/2020 09:26

They don’t get a solid pattern until 28 weeks so I really wouldn’t worry at 21 weeks, especially with an anterior placenta.

I’m almost 26 weeks with an anterior and some mornings I won’t feel a thing, I’ve guessed baby is just hiding behind the placenta, I’ll feel kicks in the afternoon again.

NishaaS123 · 16/04/2020 20:23

I had decreased movements at 20 weeks but midwife told me not to worry they wont check either until 24 weeks plus do dont worry it happens as the baby is so small they hide in places sometimes lol

Shmabel · 16/04/2020 22:16

I would echo what PP have said - baby is probably just in a different position. I'm 25 weeks and have an anterior placenta and it's only now that I feel him regularly and still not a definite pattern yet.

Still, always trust your instincts! Whilst it's probably nothing to worry about, if you are concerned please don't hesitate to check with the midwife.

She came back swinging this evening :). No more worries.

I have an anterior placenta and am surprised to have as much movement as I do at 20 weeks (21 weeks on Saturday) and it’s my first. She seems to be really active some says and then quite quiet for a day or so almost like she’s tired herself out! My midwife said at my last apt that they don’t monitor movements until after 24 weeks and also ask you to not expect a pattern until after 26 weeks. But if ever you’re concerned they won’t be bothered about you calling for advise , that’s what they’re there for :) but at our stage in pregnancy baby is still quite small and can hide a bit and it’s easy to miss movements ! My little one seems to be more active after I’ve done yoga , jog up the stairs a bit then lay down flat, and relax, and she seems to get moving after that x

GaaaaarlicBread · 16/04/2020 23:06

Ah cross post , glad she’s ok xx

sel2223 · 17/04/2020 00:19

Glad she's ok OP

I'm 23 weeks with a high anterior placenta and only just started feeling flutters this week but they're very hit and miss and certainly no pattern yet.

The midwife told me that it can take up to 24 weeks for a woman to feel movements at all and that most won't see any pattern to them until 28 weeks.
