Pregnancy weight woes

This is going to sound absolutely ridiculous..but it's getting me down. I've always been paranoid about my weight, and when I found out I was pregnant, I was determined I would but on excessive weight other than the normal pregnancy weight. This has been a challenge because I've been constantly hungry 😂 anyway, I thought I'd only put a bit of weight on my middle ( being nearly 5 months pregnant) and I stupidly just tried on a pair of trousers but I can barely get them on! I thought I'd at least get them done up underneath my bump but I couldn't and now I paranoid I've put on much more weight than I'd realised 😭 Any words of advice or comfort out there please? 😢

I put on 5st with all my pregnancies. I ate like a horse. I wouldnt worry about it its only temporary. I lost all my baby weight after a year and ive stayed the same size since.
I really envied ladies who stayed the same size but we are all different and carry different. Xx

Does it come back off fairly easily? That's my worry is that it won't ever go again 😢

You put on weight elsewhere (esp. bum, hips, thighs) so you have reserves for feeding the baby after it's born - I'm pretty sure it's hormonal so you won't be able to control the retention and distribution of weight.

I'm sorry it's getting you down - it did me as well, especially before I had a proper bump, where I didn't feel pregnant I just felt overweight, but you will be able to lose it. Just remember your body is doing what it needs to do for pregnancy, and try and go with it. I'm managing to do that now (am 26 weeks), and will focus on losing it once the baby is 6 months-ish I guess - already looking at prams you can run with, buggy fit classes and things (fingers crossed they're back on!)

Plus your jeans may not be doing up because of weight gain but that your hips have widened due to your womb and baby taking up space differently. I know my ribs have moved out to as well. However if anyone sees my bump they always say it is neat so I know I am all in proportion still and it's more bump/baby than actual weight gain.

Remember you have the actual baby weight then water and placenta plus your blood volume increases to so also weighs more. A lot of the weight is necessary if that makes sense and isn't true weight gain.

I am 5 months now and can't do my normal clothes up either but equally maternity stuff keeps slipping off as I am not that massive yet.

You need that extra weight !!! I promise you , your body is doing exactly what’s it’s designed to do .

At the end of my pregnancy my thighs were huge . I put on 16 kilo , my bmi was 26 so 16 kilo was a bit more than I should have put on but not by a lot . Anyway I thought I had ballooned up and would be fat forever . Well when I returned home from the hospital after labour, I only had 7 kilo to lose and my body slowly ( very slowly with a lot of work ) went back to “normal”. Nursing helped , I ate healthy and joined some mummy & baby workout classes . I’m so proud of my body now and all it’s mummy flaws .

I know it’s difficult but don’t be so hard on yourself . You are doing something so amazing and natural right now , growing a baby !

I'm 5 months and have put on about 6kg. Was already a bit overweight (BMI 27) when I fell pregnant and was in maternity clothes by 14 weeks, same as with my last pregnancy. I lost it all via breastfeeding last time round. It does come off!

Everyone is different in terms of weight but do keep eating healthily. Your body is doing exactly what's meant to. You WILL put some weight on. Nutrients will go to your baby before you, so it's important to eat enough for the baby AND to maintain your own health, particularly in this current environment!

Thank you everyone ! you've made me feel much better about myself 😊 I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt like this and it's reassuring to know that it should come off quite easily afterwards. Thanks again! Xx

I have only put on a little weight but had to give up with some trousers at 20 weeks. In fact my tops fit me better than my trousers even though my bump is higher than my waist band. Size and weight definitely aren't correlating right now!! I am using the set of drawers we have earmarked for the little one - anything that is remotely tight and uncomfortable is going in there so they are out of sight and I'm focusing on clothes that are comfortable ignoring their size. I'm quite sensitive about my size and weight and am trying to reduce triggers.

NicLondon1 · 16/04/2020 17:11

I am amazed you can even try to put normal trousers on! I've been in maternity trousers since 10 weeks - All my trousers went into storage a while back....!
It's only temporary don't worry - think how nice it is for the baby to have space to swim around in there :)

I'm just over 23 weeks and was trying to find some shorts that would fit the other day when the weather suddenly got warm. I naively thought I'd also be able to get some of my shorts done up, but I was so wrong 😂, not even close. I've only put on about 2kg so far and am usually very slim, so definitely think my hips are wider and also where my bump starts coming out which used to be flat. As others have said, I don't think it means anything by the fact they wouldn't do up.

I was a chubster before, still a chubster now I have popped my son out. Too busy and covered in sick to care about my rolls.

Get some stretchy trousers and relax. I thought I had gained a lot of weight by the end of my pregnancy, but when I came home from hospital I pissed out a lot of fluid retention and was the same size as before by my 1,000,000 wee that week.
