Private maternity care

I am 8 weeks pregnant. My previous pregnancy ended with an ectopic pregnancy 2 years ago which resulted in removal of a fallopian tube. I was asked at that time to for an early scan as chances will be high with next pregnancy.
Due to the current conditions, I know how busy NHS staff is. I have been in touch with my GP, who said hospital will call you back on scan date. The GP hasn't even confirmed anything on blood tests, midwife etc. By how many weeks are these referred?
I am a little worried, and thinking of private maternity care. Don't know if I am thinking too much. Has anyone in this group gone with private maternity care (fully or prtial) How much does it cost?

Hi, I understand how you feel. I recently contacted a company who offer private midwives - depending on the package it was around £4 -£6k , the mot expensive included midwife appts at home every 4 weeks for first 28 weeks, then every 2 until 36 weeks then every week. Also included 6 weeks postnatal care and support during home or hospital birth.

First things first, find out if your local maternity unit has an early pregnancy unit and telephone them directly. Find out how they are operating currently. Then decide about going privately. You could easily have a private scan and then continue on with normal maternity care if needed.

Sorry about your past ectopic. Before going private, I'd be ringing the GP back and/or trying to get in touch with the hospitals EPU, or wherever is going to see you for the scan? A viability/early scan is usually between 7-8 weeks!

I'm currently 6 weeks. As soon as I found out, (4+3) I called GP and had phone consultation. I asked for a referral for early scan at local EGU, which I'm having next week at 7+3. I'm older, had IVF and had previous MC's, so both IVF clinic, and notes from previous MC's recommended an early scan with future pregnancies. I was also given the link to so a self-referral to the midwives.

NHS maternity services are still open, even though staff might be off or have been re-deployed. In fact, many private clinics aren't. best of luck, but I'd be chasing GP/hospital. Maybe GP was thinking of just the 12 week combined test, and not an early viability scan? Did they send you the referral or any paperwork?

No they did not send any referral/paper work. I called GP this morning, they just gave me the phone no. of scan dept. at the hospital, and said that's all they can do, now its up to hospital to call. I called the hospital, and they said they are busy, I should hear from them sometime later today, but no call back.
Anyway, to be on safer side, I have booked a private scan, and luckily got tomorrows date. lets see how it goes.

@mum707 I'd go with the early scan and see how it goes, I had nothing until my phone booking appointment at 10 weeks and bloods are now have to be done at 12-week scan.

I had fully private midwife led maternity care and birth at the Portland. It cost £11K all in but that was 10 years ago. It was everything I wanted but I don’t know if hearing about it will help you now as I don’t know if they are still functioning normally or not.

Thank you for all the responses. I think I was too worried this morning based on GP and hospital response. After booking private scan, feeling little better. I'll see how it goes with NHS with future appointments/scans, I'll decide accordingly.
