Morning ladies just wondering if any of you had looked at this or has had one before, would you recommend getting one?

OP posts:

We didn’t bother with one, but looking back I really wish we had! Go for it.

bloodywhitecat · 15/04/2020 13:15

I'll take laziness, I also prefer to do the laundry in the washing machine rather than with a washboard but hey ho. I didn't have one for my own children but now I foster I use one and it's a great bit of kit. I keep it clean as they advise and had no problems with mould.

limpingparrot · 15/04/2020 13:22

I’ve used it for both babies, just about to get rid of it now my little one is 12 months, and get some extra worktop space ! Not something I ever planned to get buts it’s been great

LottieRose92 · 15/04/2020 13:24

I bought one out of panic after breast feeding was no longer an option, quite frankly I don't know how people manage without them. I take mine upstairs with me every night to, I'd have two if I could!

fatandshatteredfairy · 15/04/2020 13:28

There's currently 3 in rotation in our my family, we all have kids under 1 and they're a life saver. We used my brothers one for dd 3 years ago and bought our own this time round. Ds has just started sleeping through the night so wakes up starving and I don't know how we'd manage without it.

I was babysitting for db last year and didn't have one. The faff of making bottles, cooling them, heating them up was a pain tbh. Maybe it is lazy but I fill my time doing the other 626362 chores that come with kids so I'll take the easy option any day

fatandshatteredfairy · 15/04/2020 13:29

Also they brought out a new version, think it's called day & night but it's more expensive for not many noticeable new features so if money's an issue the standard one is absolutely fine, we didn't bother getting the newer model

PaddyF0dder · 15/04/2020 13:31

We used it for all 3 kids.

Excellent, no problems. Massive saver in terms of time and hassle. Absolutely and highly recommended.

WhenTwoBecomeThree · 15/04/2020 13:32

Get one!! We love it and it makes life so much easier, DD goes from fine to starving in around half a second so it's so handy, it only makes bottles from 4oz but they're not on smaller ounces for long anyway so would definitely recommend. My health visitor said they obviously can't promote them but she'd only heard good things about them (once we'd already bought one anyway). We sterilise ours every month and use a TT branded filter which we change every 3

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 15/04/2020 13:32

Definitely buy it if you are planning on using formula. Also buy a spare filter so you have one ready when it needs changing

chicken2015 · 15/04/2020 13:34

I used one for my 3 year old from birth and then a yeat ago used it for my 2nd followed cleaning procedure and it was fine no probelms , no longer use it as 1 year old now dribks cows milk, best thing i ever brought baby wise

june2007 · 15/04/2020 13:38

The probs include issues with mould and being cleaned properly. And also the issue that the water is not hot enough for long enough in the firsat place. Not recommended. A lot of people use them but I have never.

chicken2015 · 15/04/2020 13:44

Both my girls have had them since birth and not had any illness from them

Treaclepie19 · 15/04/2020 13:47

I've read about the advice being the water isn't hot enough. Personally I feel like there's a lot less room for error using the machine than boiling a kettle, leaving it for half an hour and then hoping its the right temperature.

Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy · 15/04/2020 13:47

My friend loves hers so I’m going to get one. There are always some for sale on Facebook market place

burntpinky · 15/04/2020 13:53

Yes they are brilliant. Used it with DC1 and even took to France. Will re use for DC2 (on way). Saves loads of time, faff and screaming. Just make sure you give it a full clean through when required (can’t remember how often as DH did this).

TerribleCustomerCervix · 15/04/2020 13:53

I ordered mine from my hospital bed when it became obvious that DC1 just didn’t fancy breastfeeding.

Amazing and idiot proof. Follow the cleaning instructions and you’ll be grand.

Mmsnet101 · 15/04/2020 13:58

I'm against them but not because I think they are the lazy option. They don't heat to the right temperature to fully sterilise the formula. This is why they are advised against, same as making up formula in advance or keeping in the fridge like they used to do.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 15/04/2020 14:02

This is why they are advised against

Are they actually advised against in the same way that The Lullaby Trust advises against sleep positioners etc?

Because throughout my postnatal and health visitors checks with 2 babies, the only reaction to me telling the MW or HV that I used a Perfect Prep was either a nod or a “Good, so you’re making up the bottles fresh then.”

As opposed to when the MW called to my sister and when she saw the Sleepyhead in the living room she asked her to clarify that it was only being used for supervised daytime naps.

thismeansnothing · 15/04/2020 14:03

I went from bf to needing to bottle feed DD when she was 3 weeks. Got one of Facebook marketplace. Best £20 I spent. Not long resold it for the same price. Absolute godsend

Treaclepie19 · 15/04/2020 14:15

I don't agree that they don't heat it high enough. If you follow the instructions then the hot shot is 70 degrees, the same as it should be after half an hour in the kettle.
They're saying in the smallest quantities it might cool down too fast to kill the bacteria but a lot of people do the same method with a kettle and thats allowed.

Bluebellpainting · 15/04/2020 14:24

Love mine. We combo fed and now solely ff. We got ours in a panic when we had to introduce formula and it was a godsend. Clean it regularly and use the right filters. No mould in sight and I do take the back off regularly to check. I’ve checked the temp of the hot shot and it is way above 70 so no worries there either. I would say put the formula in the bottle before adding the hot shot, which is one change in instructions from the original to the day night machine, as it will help the formula not clog on the scoop and there won’t be an issue of the water cooling before the formula is added.

I'm currently using one, no issues with temperature, very easy to use and clean, baby has had no issues that would result from drinking unsterilised formula....and don't know anyone who has had problems from using this.
