Double buggies - your recommendations

excitednerves · 14/04/2020 08:44

I’m expecting my second baby who is due when my first is 16 months. DS1 was premature so they’ll potentially be even closer in age is DC2 is too.

Does anyone have any recommendations for double buggies? I’ve been looking at the bugaboo Donkey but any others I should investigate? Also, do you recommend holding on to our single buggy or just selling it and stick with the double?

Thanks!

The silver Cross Coast is a good double one and very sturdy I found the buggaboo a bit filmsy compared to this one and you don't see many of them about compared to the buggaboo as its less than 12 months old since it came out x

I’m pregnant with my second too and DS will be 17 months when baby is born. I have a Cybex travel system so going to keep that and use a sling for baby where possible. Considering getting a Baby Jogger City Mini double after baby gets here when I have a better idea of what will suit because you can attach a car seat on one side so thinking that would be handy.

After watching endless reviews on YouTube and asking people on twin forums we are opting for the mountain buggy. It's no wider than a single so can for through doors and it's side by side.

Phil and teds dot was a godsend when I had 2 under 2!

I had 17m between my 2nd and 3rd and would 100% recommend the Baby Jogger city mini. Light, narrow enough for standard doors but roomy enough for bigger toddlers. Even better I think you can now get adapters to add car seat and carrycot which wasn't available when I had mine. Fitted in the boot and easy to put up and down.

Out n about nipper 360 double.

As soon as you get the chance go to somewhere like John Lewis and test them! I have gone for the bugaboo donkey 2 as I found it lovely to push. All the tandem buggies felt cumbersome to me even without 2 children in, and at 5'8' I'm not not exactly short. They also have a very good resale value. I personally found the silver cross buggy looked cheap but that is obviously my opinion. I liked the look of the city jogger but after asking a woman who had one, who had twins, she said they were great when the babies were small but as they got bigger they tended to run out of space.
My son is following the 98th percentile for height and weight and will be 15 months when my baby is born in 5 weeks.

There will be 18 months between my 2, due in September.
I think I am going to go for the mountain buggy also, I want a travel system as I loved transferring my first into the car without having to take him out of the car seat all the time.
If I wasn't going for a travel system I'd probably go for the out and about nipper.

Once you’ve made a decision about your first double buggy (I think a proper one is necessary), I highly recommend looking at the Joovy Caboose Ultralight as your follow on one. It has an integrated buggy board & seat for the toddler, and the proper seat at the front for the smallest. Absolute lifesaver as my two got older (16m gap)

Whereland · 14/04/2020 12:51

I started out with the iCandy orange double. Fine for short outings, shopping centres etc. I found it got very heavy and cumbersome once they got bigger. I got the out and about double and the difference is amazing. So light and easy to push. If you plan on going for walks then I'd 100% go with the put and about

I bought a Britax B Dual which has a pram attatchment (but only works as a single with that one) then adapts to a double once you change the pram attatchment to a seat. WOuld that work for you or do you need a lie flat + second seat from the beginning?

I later had a Mountain Buggy which I used until DS1 was 6 and DS2 3 - it had super strong frame and the only double I found which could handle the weight of two older kids!

THNG5 · 14/04/2020 13:22

ABC design Zoom. Best thing I ever bought!

Wow, thanks. My list is getting longer! Thank you all!

Bugaboo donkey at least then when your toddler starts walking u can put it into single mode. I loved it, have got a bugaboo again this time which i love.

Duckyneedsaclean · 14/04/2020 22:12

Mountain buggy duet.

Duckchick · 14/04/2020 22:23

What will you be using it for, and how often will it need to go in a car boot? How far do you walk - if it's a reasonable distance you'll need a buggy that goes up to an older age than if you only do short distances? Do you want parent facing?

Inline doubles are narrower but more awkward to push, side by sides are easier to push but harder to get through narrow doors etc.

Not sure which Baby jogger @Jessie9323 is talking about being small - the City mini double has huge seats, I've had my then 7 year old niece in mine.... We've been very happy with it, it's very easy to push, folds up very easily so is good to put in the car boot, and has really big seats. I don't take it round shops however.

Others I looked at included the Mountain Buggy - small seats so rapidly grown out of, heavy, but does parent facing and the Bugaboo Donkey which pushes like a dream, parent faces but is very expensive and whilst bigger than the Mountain Buggy still has fairly small seats.

Duckchick · 14/04/2020 22:24

Forgot to add, with your single, does it take a buggy board? Ive had a lot of use from my single plus a buggy board now the kids are that bit older.

WorriedMummyNow · 14/04/2020 23:36

Uppababy Vista. It's lovely to push, has an enormous basket and the rear seat is higher than the front so both children have a good view. We have friends with both the iCandy and Phil and Teds and the number of meltdowns their children have had fighting over who is going to sit at the front is unreal! Thankfully with ours we've managed to avoid that altogether!
It's also nimble and goes through doorways without any problems.

There are no side-by-side pushchairs that would get through a lot of the shop and cafe doors in our town so your only option here is a tandem or leaving your pushchair outside!

Wishing56 · 15/04/2020 00:24

I have the bugaboo donkey 2 for my twins and whilst it pushes really well, i do kind of regret it as it is too wide for most doorways and the aisles of some shops.

I recommend looking at the baby jogger city mini double or the mountain buggy.

Smithtylater · 15/04/2020 00:39

I have a 4 month old and a 19 month old and have recently purchased this:
infababy.com/infababy-duo-elite-double-buggy-mosaic-grey/?currency=GBP&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjeie0Irp6AIVia3tCh1qkAmJEAQYASABEgI10PD_BwE

So far so good. Its my second double pram as i had a tandem one but it was like pushing round a tank and as the little one wants to be upright more it seems ideal. Very light and goes through doors fine.
