Boy names... what if I never find one?!

I am pregnant with a little boy, already have a little girl called Ruby, always loved the name and it’s just felt right always. Have a weird sense of pride when I say her name, and just love it. But... I cannot find a boys name I have the same feeling with 😔 I love Noah but my husband isn’t keen. We discussed Teddy for a while but something about it doesn’t sit right with me. And I am not sure how it sounds with Ruby.
I am genuinely worried I will never find a name I like... has anyone else felt like this? Xx

Yeah I am being induced in 8 weeks with a boy and hate every google search known to man 🤷🏽‍♀️

Igotthemheavyboobs · 12/04/2020 20:31

Same, due on Thursday 🙈

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 20:35

I was like this. Had a girl's name picked but no boys name. We were so so on one name. My partner loved it and I liked what I would abbreviate it to. When it came to it my OH and the anaesthetist decided on the name 🤣 my LB is only ever known by his nickname though. You'll figure something out

Delbelleber · 12/04/2020 20:38

I had this problem with my dd and eventually after her birth her then 4yr old brother named her.

Lilice · 12/04/2020 20:45

I found it so hard to find my boy's name too compared to my girl. I did find one in the end and I love it. I named him Axel. Maybe have a look at foreign names to get some ideas.

BertieBotts · 12/04/2020 20:47

Yes, boy names are hard! You will find one in the end.

I think the problem with boy names is there is less of a range. With girls' names there are so many you can span the entire spectrum from dull to utterly ridiculous and find a decent range in the middle to choose from, whereas boy names seem to go for ages in the "dull" range then about three "nice but not overused" (which will completely not overlap with your partner's three, BTW) and then loads in the "weird/don't like" or "nice but too odd to use" categories.

IME "Dull but nice" is the hidden gem for boys' names. They are growers. Something like Tom or Ben or Alex feels overused but once it's your Tom or Ben or Alex, it's different.

We love the name Ruby so maybe you like our sons name; Tommy?
I think it goes really nicely with Ruby.
Good luck!

Mummyspider27 · 12/04/2020 20:56

I feel like I have seen and read every name so I won’t suddenly find one!
What I like about Ruby is it’s not unusual but not very common. She is the only one in her school. I don’t want a name where there are 5 in the class but also not a crazy name.
Although my husband and I have always liked the name Woody, just wonder if it’s a bit controversial and if I will feel embarrassed telling people his name?! Just feel it suits all ages, baby, teen, old man!
Why can’t they be born with name tags?! X

@Remmy123 i actually quite like Jasper btw 😵 xx

Mummyspider27 · 12/04/2020 20:58

@Remmy123 good list! A few I like on there, just nothing that gives me the same feeling. But maybe I won’t get the feeling until he is here and has that name? X

Few names ;

Ethan
Cairn
Tate
Finn

LadyHofH · 12/04/2020 21:05

Oh dear... I find girls' and boys' names alike to be so easy that I had to lumber my children with several each, just in case I didn't get to use them all.

So much depends on taste etc. Mine include (not saying which are their first names)

Horatio (Horace)
Valentine
Augustus (Gus)
Humphrey
Hector
Algernon
Sacheverell
Osbert (Ossie)
Sebastian
Florian

Louise0701 · 12/04/2020 21:07

Oh, great minds! I could’ve wrote your post about a lesser used name that isn’t “unusual”
My Tommy is the only one we know. Lots of Thomas & Tom but no Tommy and we get lots of compliments on his name.
Hopefully something will come to you when you see your son!

Boys names are so hard. I have a boy and am pregnant with my second baby. Again have a girls name and no boy name!

For the record I really like Woody and I don’t think there would be embarrassment associated with it.

Marcipex · 12/04/2020 21:15

Mikey
Freddie
Sol

Marcipex · 12/04/2020 21:17

Woody! Seriously? I think there’s a lot of teasing potential there.

FilthyforFirth · 12/04/2020 21:21

Also struggling with boys names. My first was a boy and we had a name we both loved so much it was picked out before we were pregnant. Along the same lines, not popular but also not out there.

I am very early so no idea if boy or girl yet but we have only decided on a girls name, which coincidentally we love.

The front runner at the mo is Marley but I like, don't love it.

sel2223 · 12/04/2020 21:22

I think boys names are hard. We had a girls name almost straight away but couldn't agree on a single boys name....luckily it's a girl!

FWI I like the name woody. I went to school with a really good looking, popular lad called that and definitely no bullying there.

GemSmith738 · 12/04/2020 21:23

We only have one name we like for a boy, Jenson

FilthyforFirth · 12/04/2020 21:23

I really like Jesper (been watching a lot of Klaus during lockdown!) But DH not keen

JumpingOnTheBed · 12/04/2020 21:33

I soooo love Kit for a boy, husband hates it so we won't use it sob! (not even pregnant or close to it!).

Our DD has a longish name so a short one for a boy would be nice.

Mummytea24 · 12/04/2020 21:37

What about a nice name that has gone out of fashion like Adrian, Stephen, Philip or Graham. All go well with ruby and not overly used
