So has anyone gave birth or had a c section in this lockdown at new cross hospital in the West Midlands? How was it? What was the rules and stuff?

I’m due to give birth here and have heard good things about the labour wards but that the aftercare is a bit lacking. I’ve been in to the ward once for reduced movements and the midwife was excellent. It looked very clean and was actually quieter than I expected. There is a consultant led ward and a midwife led one floor below. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to see the midwife one due to Coronavirus but I believe they usually would give you a chance to have a look. The close proximity of the two feels quite reassuring as it’s just a trip upstairs if anything goes wrong.

Rules have changed a bit recently. Normally it’s 2 birthing partners but with the current scenario it’s only one. There are currently no visitors allowed on the wards.

Only bad thing I’ve seen thus far is the antenatal waiting times. Sometimes appointments have run up to two hours late. Don’t expect much help from the receptionists there either. Several times I’ve been witness to phones ringing out and queues of people waiting whilst they finish their casual conversations. Was very glad when I got discharged back to midwife care.

@Lovelostnfoundx oh thank you. I have been here before with my other children but not while with this virus (well part from scans) I’m due in July and I’m just scared tbh not of the birth just the virus it’s self 🤦🏼‍♀️ Hopefully it’s calmed down by July (fingers crossed) 🤞

I know what you mean. This is my first but all the fears I had about childbirth have gone as the virus seems so much scarier! I’m due in June so I can update you then on how things are there. I would like to think that by July the situation will be improved. The good thing about New Cross is that the maternity is very separate to everywhere else. When I went to the ward it was really difficult to get in and they were extremely strict about sanitising. It’s just a horrible time to be pregnant...
