Anyone with Birmingham Women’s?

I’ve got my 20 week scan next week.
I can’t get through to them at all to see if times have changed so just going to go as usual (on my own obviously).

Has anyone else had a 20 week scan there recently? Also I’m consultant led. No idea if I will see a registra face to face. I have an independent midwife, she says she’s heard of them making you wait in the car for a phone call from them instead of face to face.

Hi,
I am at the women's. Had a scan 10 days ago and two days ago too.

You go by yourself at the scan, there will be people at the entrance asking you if you have symptoms or had in the past 7 days, or someone in your house had symptoms in the past 14 days.

There are two automatic sinks to ash your hands when in the entrance of hospital.
Seats are placed to keep social distancing.
Most of staff wear mask and apron, also sonographers.

You can ask for a scan photo, they will give one for free as your partner can't attend. They are all really lovely.

You should be able to see consultant, I saw mine, they all wear ppe.

Oh thank you! That’s put my mind at rest. I would have been going on my own regardless, so that’s not too bad.

Good to hear you’ve found them nice. I went for my booking and dating scan and found them stand offish.

Not heard anything about waiting in the car, really. I've just been there to triage on Wednesday and Thursday I had a scan.
I'm going again next week for a scan and consultant and as far as I know things haven't changed.

They have a Facebook page, you can check there for updates also.

I'm past 37 weeks.

All the best for your scan!!

Some might be sometimes a bit harsh. Generally I found there is a different atmosphere now.

Things are changing within because of Covid and found most of stuff are trying to make you feel at ease.
I also shared my appreciation for each of them telling them that. It mustn't be easy for them to work in this situation.

The person doing my scan in the scan department 10 days ago was so chatty and lovely.

I think they were stand offish as I use a mix of private and NHS care. A lot of them can be funny when you prefer to do bits of your care privately (I use a private midwife, GP etc). I’ve had it in my previous pregnancy too so I knew it would rub some Of them up the wrong way.

I’m not looking forward to the drive - I’m in Dudley so it’s quite a way. Seems daft for Dh to drive me just to sit in the car park.

It might be that. Hopefully the drive will be nice as roads are so clear this days.

Great you can have a private midwife, I wish I had one as I always seen a different one at each appointment at the gp( had to go quite often to check BP and urine) and no one ever listened to my concerns. I got diagnosed by hospital at 32 weeks with gestational diabetes but because I had to push a lot through directly to the diabetes team. No one ever listened to my symptoms, but that's ok now as I'm getting the right treatment for it.

I’m glad you are getting the right treatment now.

And yes, she’s a blessing. Means that I don’t have to travel either as she comes to my house every few weeks.
