I have been constipated for a few weeks now. I'm 14 weeks. This week has been the worse. I haven't been for 6 days! Sorry tmi but I've tried everything, drinking plenty, high fibre diet and my partner has even got me having prune juice but nothing seems to be working 😫 anyone in the same boat or have any tips? I feel so uncomfortable.

Take a laxative.

I feel your pain!
I take Lactulose every day plus I use glycerin suppositories when it gets really bad, and don’t forget to drink plenty of water.

KimH88 · 11/04/2020 14:04

@Appiandterri are they safe to take in pregnancy?

I have taken dulcoease in pregnancy at the normal dose as per leaflet.

I find it an excellent product, but it works slowly so might take 2 days to have an effect

Pineapplebaby · 11/04/2020 21:44

Both of those are definitely safe in pregnancy; it was my consultant that told me about both of them. The lactulose is a slow working type product, so you take that every day along with lots of water and eventually things soften up and get moving. The suppositories are a quick release thing; you keep one in as long as poss (at least 20 mins, up to an hour) and it’ll be more of an instant fix for what is right there waiting to come out but is stuck! If that makes sense...
Good luck x

What everyone else said and oranges...lots of oranges. If you can eat three in a go at least once a day it’ll soon have you moving Smile

Lactulose and dried figs doing the trick here - it’s horrible and frustrating though, I sympathise. I have forgotten the joy of an easy poo!

rachb2019 · 12/04/2020 12:10

It's horrible isn't it - tmi but was stuck on the toilet for 30 minutes this morning!

Just don't try too hard - you don't want piles as well!

GreenLeafTurnip · 12/04/2020 12:42

Really don't try too hard because the piles don't go away when the baby is here! I had terrible constipation. It was 10 days before I went. Had to use glycerine suppositsries for the rest of my pregnancy but I think I was about 30 weeks and son was born at 35. They were the 9nly thing that worked for me and I was drinking 4 litres of water a day at that point!!

Gosh, I had this in early pregnancy too. I got the laxatives and was too scared to take one. Was so sick so was barely eating food at the best of times.

Drink heaps of water and seeded plain toast helped. Maybe do 50 squats or a long walk to get it moving too!!

Make sure you aren’t taking iron supplements or there isn’t iron in your pre natal as this can make constipation worse too.

It goes away!! But a horrible feeling for sure!!!

Lauren15691 · 12/04/2020 15:04

Ispaghula husk (fybogel). Safe to take in pregnancy. I had it really bad and it cleared mine up by the next morning, absolute god send!

KimH88 · 13/04/2020 09:34

@GreenLeafTurnip I have suffered with piles for years anyway so certainly makes things worse being
Constipated, I had a procedure done last year and it was horrific and didn't work 😢 I've just ordered some fybogel to try so fingers crossed.
