Who to call - Doctor or Midwife

I'm 30+2 and this is day 3 of feeling unwell.

Tuesday I felt weird all day, can't pinpoint exactly what was wrong, just didn't feel right and had no appetite. Come bedtime, I felt really nauseous and was dry heaving (not had nausea since wee 17). Also had to go to the loo a couple of times in quick succession.

Yesterday woke early and had diarrhoea (just once). For the rest of the day my stomach was sore (achey, not cramps). Again, no appetite but had a headache (probably lack of food and fresh air).

This morning I had diarrhoea again and my stomach is growling like mad. The pain is still there but just on the right hand side now (beside my belly button). It's not severe but it's noticeable. Could this just be my uterus stretching? I'd have imagined the pains would have been lower.

I know this could just be a general stomach bug and nothing to worry about but I haven't been out in 3 weeks and haven't eaten anything I wouldn't usually. Do you think I should wait a couple of days and see if it passes or should I call the GP/Midwife for advice? Probably not much they can do, especially at this time but I don't want to go unchecked if I should be telling someone.

Clearly this is my first baby so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

You can always call a midwife for reassurance. You can leave a message and they can call you back - either with doctors reception or if they gave you a specific number for a local hub there should be an answer machine. Or even at the special ward at the hospital (someone will be along later with the name which escapes me). If you can't get your midwife ask your doctor to call you.

Not eating can be a self perpetuating thing. So you feel nauseous so don't eat, then feel nauseous because you haven't eaten. Try to get some food down - a ginger biscuit, any biscuit, some toast, any thing you fancy really......see if that helps.

The pain could be lots of things - it may just be an elbow or a foot pressing into you. But be guided by you as to when you want extra reassurance. A midwife (other professional) would rather talk to you and tell you not to worry - than have you not call and it end up serious.....it probably isn't serious but please don't be brave because of the Corona virus).

I hope you feel better soon.

OP I'm 37 weeks and have felt like you feel recently.
I'm certain the cause was dehydration, I thought I was drinking plenty but it wasn't until I seriously upped my fluids that I started to feel better.
Could be worth a try?

Definitely call your midwife if you're worried though, that's what they're there for.

Hope you feel better soon Thanks

Thanks for your reply @Mumdiva99 so far I've had a pretty textbook pregnancy, no aches or pains at all so have never needed to contact my midwife out with my antenatal appointments. You're right though, can't hurt to give them a call.

@AmputatedSoul glad you're feeling better now! To be honest, I'm probably not drinking enough so will definitely up my fluid intake 👍🏼

All the best for the remainder of your pregnancy. Not long now 😊

I'm not pregnant but I had a very similar bug last week. I had diarrhea for 5 days and very gurgly tummy. My 3 year old had it too so think it was definitely a bug even though we haven't left the house for 3 weeks either. I'm feeling a lot better now so hopefully itll be over soon for you too. Definitely call your midwife for advice if you're worried.

Hi OP do you still have your appendix? If the pain got worse and stays over to the right lower corner of your abdomen, that’s what I’d be wondering about. If it gets better, probably is just a tummy bug

Midwife first, and if she feels it's generalised medical she can advise GP.
