Hi
I've noticed recently that I get an ache in my groin pelvic area, I was planing to bring it up with the Dr on Monday but the hospital called to cancel which I completely understand. I was run over as a teenager and broke my pelvis which was never an issue with my 2 pregnancy before but I was in my 20s when had my 2 children I'm now late 30s was just wondering if anyone has any tip or advise I know they do offer so physio but with everything that going on I doubt that would be possible. Any tips advise from woman that have had this would be great

Hi!
Sounds a lot like Symphisis pubis disfunction (SPD). Alternatively can be called Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP)
It’s sadly fairly common in pregnancy even for people who haven’t previously injured their pelvis, and I can imagine that your injury may have made you more prone to it

Here’s my tips to help with Pain relief:

  • sleeping on my side with a long feather pregnancy pillow between my knees and ankles
  • putting a hot water bottle or hair dryer onto the painful area to relax the muscle in spasm
  • keeping knees together ALL the time as much as you possibly can in every day life; especially getting out of car, turning over in bed
  • wearing ONLY very well fitted flat shoes. No heels whatsoever
  • sitting properly is very important too: crappy soft sofas are the worst! Sit tall always, with your knees always slightly lower than your hips. Press your seat bones down into the chair so your spine rises tall.
  • a pelvic support belt can help; I used a version of what most physios call a Serola belt.

Think of all these things as dialling down the pain in tiny increments. Once your muscles go into spasm it can be difficult to get it all to calm down again, so it will feel frustrating, but keep trying.

For most people it goes away after the baby is born.

Some unlucky souls like me continued to get pain years afterwards though, but I count myself very very lucky that I found a physio in Australia who has basically cured me.

It’s called the “O.P Clinic” and if you google their website you’ll find all the info you need - maybe bookmark the page in case you do need it after pregnancy x
