Endometriosis consultant care

Hey first time here. Was diagnosed with stage 4 endo..riddled with it! I'm 10+3 and been classed as high risk due to endometriosis. Got my 12 week scan and my first OB consultant appointment straight after. What does the consultant care entail? And if people can share their pregnancy/birth journeys with endo that would be really appreciated. Just feeling anxious about it all. X

No experience but just wanted to say that I too have endometriosis together with Ashermans Syndrome (scar tissue in the cervix) but I was not referred to a consultant due to my endo - they seemed to think that this would cause no issues in pregnancy - so hopefully that gives you some reassurance.

I have however been referred to a consultant due to previous surgery to remove scar tissue and cancerous cells..

Still not had my letter about the consultant appointment though.

I’m sure every consultant led appointment will be different based on the risks you present due to your condition(s).

I had one appointment with a consultant, which was basically a chat, and I was told they didn't need to see me again. I don't think the consultant actually thought I should have been referred for a history of severe endo, because it doesn't affect what care you will receive, or require any extra monitoring, etc. It was helpful to discuss whether my previous operations would have an effect on giving birth from my point of view, though, to be reassured. They made a note on the front page of my file along the lines of, "previous surgery, avoid existing scars if performing C-section" and that was it. (There was also another reason I was referred, a separate issue unrelated to endo, which we also discussed at the appointment.) Hope that helps! x

I think it may be due to the fact I was scheduled to have a bowel resection this year because of endo..it was also on my vagina so part of that would be removed aswell. Obviously not having this till after the baby. Also got cyst on ovary and some endo on my cervix. See what happens

@jadedkeany please let me know how you get on with your consultant appointment! I have stage 4 endo and had major surgery in June, fell pregnant in November. Wasn't classed as high risk initially, but at the 20 week scan my placenta was low (more common in endo ladies) and whilst it may likely move upwards (got another scan at 34 weeks to check) they booked me in to see the consultant after given all my ops.

I do have to say that I was sceptical about endo getting better during pregnancy but my endo pains that were daily have pretty much disappeared. So I hope that's the case for you! My only problem has been bowel issues (had endo on and in the bowel) and it seems that as baby is growing it's pushing more on my bowel and going for a BM is absolute agony with all the pulling, so a little worried about how I'm going to deliver naturally with pushing as I know you have to push as if you are pooing 😂! I'm thinking of asking for an elective csection for this reason and worries about scar tissue etc

How have you been feeling? X

I have endo -but I had a laparoscopy to remove some of it a year or so before getting pregnant via IVf. I have never had to see anyone in pregnancy (30 weeks) because of my endo. I didn’t realise it was a problem once you got pregnant -I thought only before. Good luck -I’m hoping your aren’t in pain and it all goes smoothly.

Well my symtoms have gotten better as I was worse when on my period. I do have some pain and discomfort on my left side which is my ovary cyst. I had a early scan at about 6 weeks and the sonographer was stunned at all the black endo on the screen and wasnt sure what she was even looking at so I had to have my consultant who done my laparoscopy last year do my next scan a week later, she wants to see me in august to check up on me. When you have endometriosis your more at risk of miscarriage and having premature babies so that's why they are really keeping an eye on me. I am worried about the bowel issue too. I am so constipated I have lactlose daily to help and it is painful but my consultant said the endo should shrink by then so pushing may be ok but she doesnt do antenatal care so see what my doc says in my appointment. I am also tempted to have a c section but then again worry about endo growing on scar tissue.
