Reassurance on movements for a first timer

I'm 21+6 and have a high anterior placenta. So I know it might be a little less obvious for me when there are movements but I did start to feel more from 20 week onwards including some really noticeable and more consistent ones last week.

In the last 48 hours I've not felt as much at all. I rang the midwife line and they said not to worry at this stage and they don't really consider change in pattern until 28 weeks, and didn't really say anything else.

Just looking for reassurance really that it's 'normal' for movement to come and then go like this?

Yeah, really normal! At your gestation the baby has lots of room to move around and are probably lying in a different position to when you felt more movement.

Always call if you’re not happy with movements but you have done so here and they have given you advice which hopefully should reassure. Movements is horrible and so stressful, best of luck with the rest of the pregnancy Flowers

Totally normal! I'd been having regular(ish) noticeable movements from around 21 weeks but in week 24 they almost stopped. I felt little pulses now and again but nothing as strong or often as I was used to. After 3 days I called triage and they told me exactly the same as you, they don't look for a pattern until 28 weeks so not to worry.

They did say to try these things to get baby moving:

  1. Have a sugary drink/snack
  2. Lie on your left side for a while

I was told that if I was still concerned that I should call my midwife and ask her to check the heartbeat with a Doppler. I didn't end up doing this as the movements picked up again after a couple of days. I'll be 30 weeks tomorrow and my wee man is kicking lumps out of me now, constantly x

Totally normal :) I could feel things on and off until about 30 weeks and now its a kind of pattern xx

Oh thank you so much everyone, helped put my mind at ease!

I’m 23+4 and was worried this weekend because I still haven’t felt a thing (anterior placenta too). I got myself so worked up that the community midwives saw me in the hospital straight away. They held a heart rate monitor over my bump and I could hear her moving and a solid heartbeat.
With the anterior placenta you don’t need to be concerned until 24 weeks (speaking from my own anxious experience) 😊

Birdy1991 · 06/04/2020 18:32

Sorry to correct myself, with the 24 week thing, not that you need to be concerned, but it does say everywhere that you should report it if you’ve not felt any movement at all (and you already have felt movement anyway). And yeah we only need to monitor patterns after 28 weeks. Maybe the baby has moved to a funny position, they do weird things in there!

I have a high anterior placenta too. I've felt movements from about 21 weeks. I'm 24 weeks now and movements are very strong and very often. But I do have days where he seems quieter. I put it down to position because the following day I could be being booted all day long. I definitely think it's down to position of baby Smile

I'm in the same position I have a high anterior placenta, I've been feeling movement since 17 weeks, some strong kicks about a week ago by the side. Now not felt as much the last couple of days (21+5). I have been really worried but my midwife said not to worry and told me to drink something cold and lay on my left side. I did feel so kicks, much lighter so guessing the baby has moved to behind the placenta.
