Hi girls! FTM here so feel soooo clueless!
I know you can't really say until baby is here what size they'll exactly be, but how many new born baby grows vets ect do you think is enough?
I've seen some people say 'oh I wouldn't get new born' and some say oh you should so does anyone have any advice?

Going by my past experience new born clothes were too small for my babies. Up to one month would be OK for a bigger/longer baby to start with then on to 0-3. Mine measured long and were at the top end of 8lbs but not quite 9lb. I'd say you need about 14 little vests and baby grows. They can go through several in a day with leaky nappies etc and then you should have enough to get them washed and dried before running out.

I'm due in August and my plan is to buy some Asda multi packs (one in each size) for the hospital and then send my hubby when baby is here to pick up more, that way it'll only be £6/£12 wasted instead of a lot more!

The supermarkets are never going to fully shut and they'll always have baby grows, baby's grow too quickly to stop stocking clothes for them.

Unfortunately you don’t know until they get here, I only took newborn and 0-3 into hospital and despite a reasonably weighted baby (6lb 13oz) she needed tiny baby for nearly a month! I’m glad I had some just in case at home but not very many and I had to wash so often because I didn’t have enough! Although I will say lots of people will buy you clothes for baby (especially with it being your first) and they will 90% be newborn sized!

I have just finished packing my hospital bag I have packed

Premature- due to the size of my first baby

Tiny baby

Newborn

0-3

Just basic sleepy suits. 2 of each.

It might seem silly taking 4 sizes but I only packed newborn for my first and she was drowned in everything so judging by the situation I have tried to prep well considering I will be on my own.

I’d get some Newborn and 0-1 but majority 0-3.

DS is 3 weeks old, baby 7lb11 at birth, now around 9lb. He was in newborn for a week, in 0-1 currently. He fits into 0-3 but they are quite baggy and his legs pop out and get stuck and he gets quite frustrated!

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 06/04/2020 17:24

Well, this isnt much help at all, but I came to washing the clothes the other day and my MIL had brought tiny baby (no idea why) but i put it up against one of the newborns and it was actually bigger than a newborn one by about 2 inches!!
So be aware that different brands go by very different sizing. I have all my newborns & 0-3 hung up and some newborns are as long as the 0-3. Madness

hauntedvagina · 06/04/2020 17:25

I know there is always the mindset to buy bigger as they last longer, however I found that DS1 would pull his legs up inside the 0-3 grows and out of the legs, then he couldn't stretch out again and would cry.

He was in newborn for a week (had maybe 9 suits), up to 1 month for a week (again, 9 grows) then went into 0-3.

I appreciate this seems terribly wasteful but he was far happier in clothes that fitted. For reference he was 8lb 11oz and 75th percentile for length.

I got newborn size to take to hospital. They were up to 10lb. I'm superstitious so only got the bare minimum I needed before the baby was born, also we didn't want to find out the sex until the birth, so we knew we'd be getting the majority of clothes after, when we'd also know what size we needed. Our baby weighed 6lb 7oz, so we needed the next size down, tiny baby which was for up to 7lb 5oz. We went to mothercare for all clothes, not sure if sizes may differ from shop to shop.
