Natmeme45 · 06/04/2020 12:10

Hi Fellow Mums,

I am waiting to book my 1st appointment with Whippscross hospital via Barts Newham in the coming weeks and I am very confused as to the decision of where to give birth as I should ideally be having my appointments with that hospital too. This is going to be my first baby am worried and I have no previous experience. I have read a few horror reviews on Queens but whipps cross had a bit more negative ones. so am not sure which hospital to choose for my first appointment. (Both are the nearest ones from where Iive)

Any one has had any good experiences with either of them in the recent times (2019- 2020) please helpSad

Hello OP

We'll move this one over to our pregnancy board for you.

Hope you get the advice you are after over there. Flowers

Do you mean Queens Romford? If so, they are currently requires improvement in the maternity department. I liked Queens because you can pay for a private room there but the RI put me off.

Lulu008 · 08/04/2020 12:10

I am due to give birth at Queens in Romford next month. The maternity services are rated by CQC as 'Good' although the hospital as a whole is rated as 'Requires Improvement'

I can't give my personal experience yet, but I am hearing via other local mums (and antenatal group leaders) that the midwives are going above and beyond at the current time to make each birth as good as it can be in the circumstances. I'm sure there are exceptions as there would be in any hospital, but everything I've heard so far has been good

I gave birth in the midwife led birthing centre at Queens and it was brilliant. I was in one of the large rooms with a birthing pool and it was just me, a midwife and trainee and my DP. If you are low risk I’d definitely opt for the birthing centre.
Queens used to have a bad reputation but they have made serious improvements over the last few years.

CallMeOnMyCell · 09/04/2020 09:07

Sorry I meant to say I have birth last year there.

peachypetite · 13/04/2020 16:40

@Natmeme45 no prob!

georgialondon · 13/04/2020 16:53

You should read the CQC reports on both.

Whipps Cross used to be dreadful. Lots of babies born with broken limbs, but things may have changed

peachypetite · 13/04/2020 17:24

It looks like whipps has massively improved

UnrulySalvia · 13/04/2020 17:49

I don't know if it's an option for you but I'm at Homerton and they seem pretty good so far (I'm only 24 weeks so a way to go yet..).

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 13/04/2020 18:25

My DC are older, and King George was still in play then. Because of what happened during my pregnancies I got shifted into the other hospital - neither were born in the hospital they were meant to initially. One of my DC was born in Queens at the time they were in really bad shape and I have to say other than seeming noticeably short staffed, they were great. Friends have had DC there recently and have said the experience was much better than at that period. Unfortunately I have nothing to say either way first or second hand on Whipps to compare for you.

Hi OP,

I had my DS at Whipps X in 2015. Feel free to ask me anything and I'll try to give you some info (as much as I can remember, it seems so long ago!)

Liande · 13/04/2020 20:38

Hi there, I gave birth at Whipps in 2014 and they were great. I then had about 7 months of maternity care with them before I moved out of area for my second pregnancy. Smile

milney25 · 13/04/2020 20:50

I gave birth at Whipps in July 2018 and plan to have my second there later this year. I had a good experience. I know a lot of people who've had Whipps births and all have generally had good experiences
