Conclusive Advice about Pregnant Keyworkers

Hi all,

I've got a bit of a dilemma - I asked a similar question on the Conception forum when I got my BFP last Wednesday.

I'm early days pregnant - probably 4+6 by my estimation and I am a key worker (teacher). My school is open over the Easter break and staff have been timetabled in once a fortnight or once a week. Our staffing situation is good at school.

When I got my BFP, I asked my GP receptionist what the advice was and they directed me to the government website and told me to discuss with my manager. I found two links. One that said that pregnant women were still vulnerable and should limit social contact and another that said that this was only the case for the third trimester. I told my manager and she was supportive and took me off the rota last week but said she would be keen to research the advice for certain moving forward.

Does anybody know what the best, most up to date advice is?
I am otherwise fit and healthy and really enjoy being in school but I don't want to put myself at risk.

Thanks

I work in the nhs and our trusts current advice is up to 27 weeks to continue to work following precautions, using PPE and distancing as able but after 28 weeks to stay at home

Its self isolate for pregnant woman in 3rd trimester or pregnant woman with heart problems, pregnant woman in 1st and 2nd trimester are to follow the government's advice that is set out to everyone else who is or isnt pregnant x

I'm a trainee teacher and my school phoned me the Tuesday morning after the government made the announcement they were putting pregnant women in the at risk catagory and told my to stay home, a member of staff in the department is also pregnant and been told the same so it wasn't a liability thing because I'm a trainee. I'd argue they need to make accomodation to protect you and your unborn child, as per usual protection in pregnancy the should suspend you on full pay although I think you'd more likely be furloughed with 80% but maternity action would probably advise better.

Personally I’d ask to be off work, but it could mean you end up not being at work for the majority of your pregnancy at all!

The guidance has now changed. If work cannot keep you two metres away from people in the work place you should be working from home or medically suspended on full pay.

Hope this helps!

Just got a call from my head who said she'd be happier to take me off the school rota on full pay. I'll carry on working from home.

Well I’m being totally screwed over! I’m a key worker, nearly 33 weeks, I had to convince a gp to write me a sick note, then the company will only be paying statutory sick pay (not even company sick pay which I am fully entitled to)! So I’m losing out on over £160 a week!

Emerald89 · 06/04/2020 13:37

@kittykat7210 how have they justified only giving you SSP? Have you tried maternity action? They have employment solicitors on their books who can give advice

kittykat7210 · 06/04/2020 13:41

@Emerald89 they said their policy during coronavirus is that all coronavirus related sickness is SSP, ironically I felt lucky getting that because their original stance was that if you were just isolating without symptoms then it would be unpaid absence!
