Question about paying for antenatal scans

Firstly sorry if this is a stupid question, I’m a first time Mummy here and have my ‘12 week’ scan tomorrow. I’m just praying that everything will be ok with baby. I know that I’ll have to attend alone and that I’ll have to pay for a scan photo - how do I do this? I’m just wondering if I need to bring cash? It if I can pay by card? I usually have cash on me but as I haven’t been out in weeks I don’t have any, I’d rather not stop at a cash machine on the way there but obviously I will if I have to.
Thank you and I know this might be a silly question!

For mine they had a machine that I used contactless card with, looked similar to the machines you buy parking tickets from. It was in a normal nhs hospital so I’d imagine they all have this kind of thing in place now Smile

In my scan letter it says they’re £3 each and to bring coins. So check your letter

Mummyspider27 · 05/04/2020 19:10

Mine was card only too. Was written on the letter although there for an appointment last week and a sign on the machine said they were giving them for free at the moment x

They always say bring £ coins .... but all
The machines I’ve come across at 4 diff hospitals have card machines attached too them!

MoonBlood · 05/04/2020 19:16

At our hospital it’s a coin machine and you have to have 3 x £1 coins. However they are doing them for free at the moment, is there a way you can check? A local mums to be group or similar you could ask on Facebook maybe? X

Prettylittlelady · 05/04/2020 19:17

Thank you, I’ll bring some £ coins just in case, the letter doesn’t say anything about it so really wasn’t sure what to expect.

Hello - and congratulations! I had a scan his week (second baby) and was worried about picking up a scan picture and touching the very well used machine. I explained this to the sonographer and they very kindly printed me one picture out so I didn’t have to use the machine - you could if your sonographer would do the same? Failing that, I know the machine at my local hospital takes card, coins and banknotes and it’s usually about £4. I hope all goes well for you.

wowjustwowyes17262 · 06/04/2020 17:08

Also the machine doesn’t print the scan photos, you just pay for it there - get a receipt to then give to reception to get your photos.
I’d wait until after the scan just in case you get any for free, for example with my1st at my 20 week scan they were free as the he was in a bad position for photos so the sonographer told me not to worry about paying 😊

I think it depends on your hospital. Mine didn't charge with DS, they just had a box for donations.

pottypotamus · 06/04/2020 17:21

My hospital has a card machine to pay at. They don't accept cash.

PanicAtTheDiscLo · 06/04/2020 21:23

My hospital usually charge a fiver for a picture but I got 3 at my 20w scan without paying because the machine has to be closed for infection control x

ElfAndSafety1 · 06/04/2020 21:29

My hospital do it all online, they give you a code at the end to enter into the website and you pay as you would any other online purchase.
£10 a photo.
They give you 4 photos.
£40 for your own scan photos Grin
(Luckily you can view them so everybody just screenshots)

Secondsop · 06/04/2020 22:39

Is there any information in your letter from the hospital? Mine doesn’t print out photos anymore and instead lets you take photos with your phone of the big screen. At the end of the scan they helped me choose a couple of nice ones.

bluemoon2468 · 06/04/2020 22:43

My hospital is £2 per photo, cash only.

Viletta · 06/04/2020 22:46

Mine was coins into the donation box at the reception

Prettylittlelady · 07/04/2020 07:04

Thank you for all the responses. I brought some £ coins just in case but I was able to pay by card on the machine, the scan went well, thank you for the advice Smile
