Pushchair/travel system help

Annasouthlondon · 05/04/2020 17:00

Hello all, I hope you are all doing well.
I wanted to ask for help with choosing a pushchair/travel system. My first baby is due in a couple of months and since I cannot get to the shops to try a few out I think I may need to buy it online
I live in London so get public transport often- buses mainly. I want something not too heavy and also something that doesn't take up too much room when collapsed/folded since we don't have too much space in our flat. Also keen for something that can handle the often uneven pavements. I have been researching online and have a shortlist as follows. Any recommendations would be really appreciated :)
Baby Jogger City Mini/ GT
Uppababy Cruz (current fave)
Babyzen Yoyo
Bugaboo Bee
I-Candy Peach

Thank you, Anna :)

Any mums/mums to be who had similar buggy needs to me and managed to try or bought one of the above models? Would really appreciate any help :)

My advice......

Spend as little as possible! Travel systems are an absolute pain in the arse and having done it twice mine were both in a lightweight buggy by 6 months at the latest.

Colouringinbook · 07/04/2020 13:48

If you're relying on buses you need something you can fold and stow one handed really. I'm not sure about your options there but I think the icandy one is a two piece which would be hard if you needed to fold it up quickly by yourself.

Friends have reported that the yo-yo isn't great for cobbles/uneven surfaces but love the fold.

Piper1879 · 07/04/2020 13:56

I've got the yo-yo for when my baby's here , newborn and toddler , it folds so small and I live up a flight of stairs so it's easy to collapse and carry if needed . I've gave it a test run and found it to be perfect

SunStruck · 07/04/2020 14:03

Placemarking shamelessly!!! I am in the exact same situation and Uppababy Cruz is current fav. My friend got. Bugabee Fox and loves it, what is the difference between that one and Bugaboo Bee which seems more common?

Is John Lewis the only stockist of Uppababy Cruz?

SunStruck · 07/04/2020 14:07

@Piper1879 does the yo-yo work for newborn? I thought it didn't fold all the way back? Can you buy a bassinet to go with it for the first 6 months?

I keep reading yo-yo is the best for traveling but not everyday as it can be flimsy (and also that it is suitable from 6 months up), is this wrong?

@sunstruck it comes with a newborn bassinet , that can be all on when folded. Newborn bassinet is padded and lined well , baby does need to be strapped in when it , but for me the pros outweighed that one annoyance

Piper1879 · 07/04/2020 14:12

Here's the newborn bassinet and here it folded in my old corsa

I asked this on a FB thread I am a member of called Bumps on Lockdown (recommend joining!).
My needs are similar to yours but I also will be doing country walks and want a carry cot add-on so baby can sleep in it during the day/over night if we travel somewhere.
The two on my shortlist right now are the Cossato Giggle 3 and the Uppa Baby Vista/Cruz!
Buggaboo also looks good, but is more expensive.
Cossato has a really good deal on atm it's basically half price! And it has come very highly recommended. x

FraterculaArctica · 07/04/2020 14:17

We bought a Baby jogger City Mini GT for DC1 and have never regretted it. It's now on DC3 and we've never felt the need to buy another pushchair.

BuffaloCauliflower · 07/04/2020 14:25

I will probably go for whatever looks like good second hand deal on Facebook Marketplace in the autumn (I’m due November) or whatever gets passed on to me. I’ve seen friends go through so many buggies at different times it doesn’t seem the sort of thing worth buying new. So many in great condition always going second hand

Sunshiness · 07/04/2020 14:56

We have a yoyo and love it. Its small of course but great for manovring in busy areas, cafes etc.

Annasouthlondon · 07/04/2020 20:29

Thank you all so much!!
I think I may be confused with what a travel system is, I thought I almost had to get this as it included a pushchair, a bassinet to attach to the pushchair for newborns and a car seat? Car seat to get the baby home from the hospital and also we are "planning" on buying a car at some point this year- but I will still use buses to get around London.
@FoxtrotSkarloey that's great call on loading up a suitcase to the pram weights! Will definitely help me imagine the difference between the models.
@IslayBrigid oh I haven't looked at Cossato Giggle 3, just looked it up on Which report and the 2019 model gets 73% rating so looks a great option. Will add that one to my list too to compare :)
@SunStruck this site have the Cruz in stock.

Will use the Easter weekend to do some more thinking and hopefully purchasing, I have definitely got pregnancy brain at the moment so I may need to do a lot of thinking :)
Thank you all x

We have a Cruz and a yo-yo for holidays.

Yo-yo is much more mobile and easier for public transport. Cruz is our preferred for pushing and the huge basket is great for shopping. It does also fold up in one piece but quite bulky.

Lotsofpots · 07/04/2020 20:39

We have a Cruz and have used it pretty much daily for four and a half years over the course of two kids. It's awesome. We're also in London and don't have a car so rely on public transport. It isn't the smallest on the bus compared to something like the yoyo but I've never had a problem with it, and the big basket and now comfy it is to push makes up for it no end.

We have a lightweight buggy too and I much prefer the Cruz. Both the kids always seem much comfier in it and it's much easier for them to nap in.
Only thing to note is you can't really fold it with one hand. But that's never been an issue for us.

Baby Zen is perfect for London, I love mine

SunStruck · 08/04/2020 09:22

@Annasouthlondon thanks for the link! 😄

Arghhh soooo difficult now, yo-yo or Cruz! 😩

poopatroop · 08/04/2020 09:51

People who have the yoyo rave about it - looks really compact and lasts for years. The only negative for using it from newborn is that the lay-flat bassinet isn't super stable - if you knocked it against something it would begin to fold flat. Just something to be aware of.

Without wanted to confuse things, have you looked at the Joolz Hub? We very very nearly went for it (went for the bigger Joolz Day in the end as going on public transport wasn't a key consideration for us). But things that really appealed to me about the Joolz Hub: the bassinet is good and sturdy, small and folds easily, but a little heavier and less flimsy than other super small folding ones. Also it looks good.

I found picking a pram so hard and ummed and ahhed over it for literally months - you have my sympathy OP! I'd also search on YouTube for reviews (ideally non-sponsored ones) which might help your decision.

Annasouthlondon · 08/04/2020 14:04

@FoxtrotSkarloey thank you, so helpful! I think we will buy a small car around July this year, so quite soon. My OH thinks that we should just get a taxi home from the hospital and we can use the car seat then.

@SunStruck I know it is so so hard, I am probably over thinking it. I am going to watch some unsponsored Youtube videos (as suggested) and see if that makes me decide, I could always ask my OH to decide...i'm sure he would make a decision in two minutes rather than have an ongoing internal debate :)
My friend has the Bugaboo Bee and wishes she had bought the Babyzen Yoyo, three of her NCT friends have it and love it. I am really temped by the Uppababy Cruz though since it sounds really comfortable and the baby can sleep in the carrycot overnight if needed.

@poopatroop I have added the Joolz to the list too, it does look great! About £850 including the carrycot but I found a deal for £700, gets 82% on Which report!

Thanks once a again ladies :) :) x

One thing to bear in mind re the yoyo (and maybe some others, not sure) is that it can only world face when you move out of newborn stage (5-6months ish) whereas the Bee you have the option of either world or parent facing. You can’t know until you have your baby unfortunately but as it turns out my son loves being parent facing - we chat all the time when he’s in the buggy. If we’re ever somewhere interesting for him to look around (like the zoo!) I can easily switch it round. With the yo-yo you don’t have that option and I think I would have hated it! The Bee is also slightly more robust than the yo-yo (and slightly heavier) - we are in London but I push him round the park on grass etc loads and it copes really well, whereas my friend’s yo-yo needs to stick to paths. The yo-yo is definitely smaller and lighter but I’m so happy I have the Bee.

Annasouthlondon · 09/04/2020 12:21

Thank you @HarrietM87 I have now ruled out the Yoyo because of this reason, I do want the option of being able to world or parent face my baby after 6 months :)

Now just deciding between the Bugaboo Bee5, Uppababy Cruz and new but looks a great contender the Nuna Triv. This is real progress for me, whittling down to just three :)

Lotsofpots · 10/04/2020 12:40

My Cruz had to be repaired and the shop loaned me a bee for 6 weeks and I didn't like it at all. It felt flimsy (I almost tipped it over multiple times just doing over a kerb that my Cruz would have managed with no problems) and v low down. Hated the small basket too.

That being said I rated how compact it was, how much you could lower the handle (great for tight spaces on buses) and it looks cute.

HarrietM87 · 10/04/2020 13:01

I have a feeling the Cruz is slightly wider than the Bee and that’s why we ruled it out (we have a very narrow hallway) so maybe check that too.
