Supermarket home delivery

Has anyone had any success at getting a supermarket to register them as vulnerable for access to online delivery slots? I am heavily pregnant and if my husband goes shopping and gets ill after I’ll be going through childbirth alone. Can’t seem to get any of them to see that pregnant women are in the same category as over 70s.

Unless you have had a letter from the nhs saying to stay in, you won't be registered. Heavily pregnant here and husband is still going out, needs must.

mollibu · 04/04/2020 14:50

I don't think you'd qualify as vulnerable if you have a healthy partner who can do the shopping.

pollypocketrocket · 04/04/2020 14:52

Yes I have in Sainsbury's

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/04/2020 14:52

Over 70’s are in the same category as you op- high risk but not extremely vulnerable. You have to be extremely vulnerable for priority slots.

Coastercat · 04/04/2020 15:55

You don’t. Sainsbury’s and Waitrose are giving slots to the highly vulnerable and all over 70s. And my partner is going nowhere near the shops either as if he gets it not only am I most likely to get it but as I am only a few weeks off giving birth he would be barred from being there.

@Coastercat pregnant women are classed as 'vulnerable'. They're only 'highly vulnerable' if they also have a heart condition or serious respiratory issue.

I'm pretty sure the priority slots for delivery with all supermarkets are only for the highly vulnerable.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/04/2020 16:00

Sainsbury’s and Waitrose are yes but the government list that they are giving to supermarkets is only people on the extremely vulnerable list. Those two supermarkets are going above and beyond what is required of them.
Pregnant women have to be strict with social distancing as a precaution there is no evidence that you are more at risk.
Giving birth alone although not what you would want, is in no way comparable to the risk to health and life of an elderly person.

MsChatterbox · 04/04/2020 16:01

Do you have any family near you that can drop shopping off on your doorstep? I'm pregnant and we're exactly the same trying to avoid shops! In my eyes husband going is the same as me going.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/04/2020 16:04

This may reassure you.

Why are pregnant women in a vulnerable group?
Pregnant woman were placed in a vulnerable group by the Chief Medical Officer on 16th March. This means you have been advised to reduce social contact through social distancing measures
.

Based on the evidence we have so far, pregnant women are still no more likely to contract coronavirus than the general population. What we do know is that pregnancy in a small proportion of women can alter how your body handles severe viral infections. This is something that midwives and obstetricians have known for many years and are used to dealing with. As yet, there is no evidence that pregnant women who get coronavirus are more at risk of serious complications than any other healthy individuals.

What has driven the decisions made by officials to place pregnant women in the vulnerable category is caution. We know that some viral infections are worse in pregnant women. At the moment, there’s no evidence that this is the case for coronavirus infection, but the amount of evidence available is still quite limited.

I’m not all that worried about getting it, my husband just really wants to be at the birth so we are trying hard as hell not to get it. I know we are not in the highly vulnerable group - that’s for pregnant women with severe underlying conditions too - we are ‘vulnerable’ same as over 70s, yet some supermarkets are happy to give the over 70s slots and not the heavily pregnant. If the worst comes to the worst we can live off tinned chickpeas and frozen veg for the next few weeks but I do find it frustrating.

Found put tesco slots go live at midnight, stayed up and managed to get one for a couple of weeks. Not ideal but its mad at the moment!

vickielisabeth · 04/04/2020 16:21

If your husband drives try click and collect. That's what we're doing and avoids any close contact with anyone.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 04/04/2020 16:24

Well, many people in the shielded group can't get slots, and I don't know anyone in the vulnerable group, including those in their 80s let alone 70s who've been able to get slots. There are just not enough slots to meet demand so they should be kept for those in the most need or those who cannot go out or they risk dying, rather than those who don't want to go out.

Catlover10 · 04/04/2020 16:25

Tesco release slots out at midnight, I have a delivery coming tomorrow from Tesco that I booked on there by refreshing a lot- didn’t have to register as being vulnerable or anything you just have to stay on the page and get lucky with your timing. If you both try it on your phones at the same time you are likely to grab a slot!

Coastercat · 04/04/2020 16:37

Thanks for the Tesco tips! Will give it a go.

and believe me the over 70s are much more 'vulnerable' than a pregnant person especially if they have someone else in the household. Many 70 Year olds and older live alone - just think about that in the grand scheme of things. Hmm

UnrulySalvia · 04/04/2020 18:42

My partner is full on "highly vulnerable" letter from the NHS and all that jazz.. still can't get a supermarket slot!

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/04/2020 18:55

@UnrulySalvia has your partner registered with the government with the same email address as the supermarkets? I received my Asda and Sainsbury’s priority today . Email requested I pick one shop for delivery. Am going to use Asda as they have given me a free priority pass for a recurring weekly slot with free delivery.
It takes about a week from registering you here from supermarkets.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/04/2020 18:55

*to hear

UnrulySalvia · 04/04/2020 19:09

@MyDcAreMarvel I think so, but will check.

There was a question in the registration about whether you had friends or family who could collect things for you.. we answered "yes" (we do have lovely neighbours, although we'd obviously prefer not to ask them for too many favours) so wondered if this was why we weren't getting one.

Thanks for the info though, I will pass it on to DP.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/04/2020 21:22

@UnrulySalvia I answered yes also but still received priority online shopping. My mum answered no ( she is not local to me) and has received two government food parcels. So you should hear from the supermarkets soon, register with your preferred supermarket if you aren’t already.

MooseBreath · 04/04/2020 21:41

I received an email from Sainsbury's saying that I have been classes as vulnerable and therefore get priority delivery. I still haven't been able to book a slot, but it was a lovely gesture on their part.

Is there someone local to you who could do your shop for you and leave it on your doorstep? You could transfer them the money immediately

UnrulySalvia · 04/04/2020 21:44

@MyDcAreMarvel - that's good to hear! 🤞we get a slot then..

Robs20 · 04/04/2020 21:51

Try asda. I’ve had a delivery this week and c&c booked for 2 weeks time. Same position as you, 3 weeks off c- section and would like DH to be there (so avoid the potential of picking up cv in the shops).
