Look at the NHS website rather than random stuff. From memory the guidance is 3 cups of tea a day so you're fine.

Even if you were over the guidance, it's tea not cocaine.

@PaulinePetrovaPosey haha very good! yeah you're right, it's just tea. gosh it's not like i'm drinking or doing drugs or bungee jumping...have been bitten by the perfectionist bug

Here are the NHS guidelines on foods/drinks to avoid during pregnancy: www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/foods-to-avoid-pregnant/

Two cups of tea and a bar of chocolate in one day still leaves you safely below the recommended maximum caffeine intake. But of course, it is your body & your baby, so do what you feel happy about.

If it makes you feel better decaff tea isnt too bad but really I would focus on the anxiety rather than the tea.

FeelingBeautiful · 03/04/2020 13:02

thanks so much, yep the anxiety is not off the charts but it's there. doing my best and my hubby is great. i feel very relieved from reassurance here. part of it is from first time pregnancy and not being able to meet friends or my mum now : ( but it is what it is and i'm not doing too bad. thanks for reassurance on tea! I don’t think MC is the concern with caffeine, more low birth weight. Follow NHS advice and you’ll be grand

oh good, my baby is measuring big so i prob haven't been drinking too much. i love tea so much it really gets me excited about getting up, that's so sad isn't it?! tea, radio, bit of toast and butter. that's my kind of morning

Some studies suggest having more than 200mg caffiene per day can contribute to possible miscarriage but I think the risk is mostly in first trimester for this. Also, an average cup of normal tea has about 50mg caffiene, and a choc bar as probably about 5-10mg so you are fine :)
I have one lovely strong cuppa tea every morning, then tend to not have another caffienated drink. occasionally I have a green tea (about 25mg caffiene) and I do of course eat chocolate :)

Bobbiepin · 03/04/2020 16:46

If a cup of tea with toast is how you get your kicks, I think you'll be just fine!

LH1987 · 03/04/2020 16:51

Youre allowed 200mg of caffeine a day, I think a cup of tea has 40mg. You realistically could have 5 cups :)

LuckyC27 · 03/04/2020 16:57

I've had one cup of normal English breakfast tea every morning with breakfast since being pregnant. If I fancy another cup later in the day I just switch to decaf. As other posters have mentioned you are allowed up to 200mg so are well within that Smile
