Baby movements with anterior placenta

Hello everyone. I just wanted to know what your baby movements were like with an anterior placenta. I am currently 27 weeks pregnant today with my first child and some days I feel non stop movement and other times I can only feel him a tiny bit around the sides and at the bottom or sometimes it's like there's not even a baby in there Hmm* my midwife said this is entirely normal with having an anterior placenta but I need to hear it off other woman too who've actually experienced it for themselves! I just over think and over think and it drives me mad. Haha thanks ladies x*

I’m interested in this because I have a low anterior placement and haven’t felt anything yet! I’m 23+1 weeks.

I have an anterior placenta and my babies movements are pretty much as you describe. I'm 32w.
Trying to get him moving now as been v quiet today.

Puddlelane123 · 03/04/2020 12:54

I had this and I found it incredibly stressful as I was constantly in for monitoring due to long gaps between feeling movements. It improved somewhat when baby was bigger and the placenta provided less cushioning from the more vigorous kicks, but I would often still go 8-10 hours of feeling nothing. This carried on throughout the pregnancy and I ended up being induced at 38 weeks after being in so many times for monitoring. It certainly didn’t help my anxiety and I always felt sad that I had so few experiences of feeling my baby move. With that said it does seem to depend on where the placenta is anteriorally - ie high or low - and position of baby.

This is my fifth pregnancy and my first anterior placenta, I started feeling baby much more at around 25/26 weeks. It was around then that my partner felt it for the first time too. All my previous pregnancies we were feeling movements from about 10 weeks before that! I’m 29+5 now and it’s on the go constantly, which is lovely and reassuring but not very comfortable especially at night so be careful what you wish for! It won’t be long before you miss these days 😂

I'm 27 weeks as well, not sure if it makes a difference that it's my second baby (14 years apart though) but baby is a fidget and always moving

latheritup · 03/04/2020 13:05

Hi, I had an anterior placenta too and didn’t feel my first movement until 23 weeks. I did have several periods of reduced movements during the pregnancy and had to be induced at 39 weeks.

Please, if you don’t feel like baby isn’t moving enough then you need to call up. Do not feel silly for doing so. Do not follow the old wives tales to get baby to move as they’re dangerous and outdated, there could be something wrong with baby if they’re not moving.

I have an anterior placenta but am only 19 weeks so far. Just got it confirmed on Tues at my scan. I have felt baby a handful of times since becoming pregnant but very, very lightly. A couple of gentle thuds, a couple of very light squirmy feelings. I mostly don't feel her at all. I hope that after 20/25 weeks or so she is easier to feel as I don't like the thought of constantly worrying and having to go have check ups... a friend of mine said her anterior placenta was a blessing later on as it did muffle the movement and helped her sleep :)

Shmabel · 03/04/2020 14:07

I'm 23 weeks. Anterior placenta.

First felt baby for definite at 20 weeks, the next day, the kicks could be felt from the outside, so I guess it has to be big kicks for me to feel them at the front.

I do feel him move regularly now (he kicks my cervix/bladder sometimes and I feel him turning etc.) but there are sometimes hours between feeling him. I'm 24 weeks Sunday so I'm hoping my little one takes it up a gear so I don't have to worry about him. I guess it would be difficult to know when it's normal and when you should be seeking help. But as latheritup says, don't be afraid to get it checked out when there's been a period of not feeling movement. Seems like puddleduck did this too and it's the right thing to be on the safe side.

I have an answer an anterior placenta too but its very high up midwife says.. i have been feeling movement since 17 weeks and am now 28 wks and he has been consistently active... i think its where your placenta is positioned either high middle or low... and i see a lot of people saying with boys you feel them stronger so maybe this is the case 🤷🏽‍♀️

Firsttimer93 · 03/04/2020 16:40

PredicItive txt 😳

toomuchteaandcake · 03/04/2020 17:13

I do. I think the movements vary from day to day and I'm trying to get used to this now. I'm 27 weeks today and after a very active week the last couple of days the kicks during the day haven't felt as strong (tho at night still feels as tho baby is trying to burst out lol). Saying that I would still say I'm feeling movement of some kind every hour or two at least and that consoles me.

sel2223 · 03/04/2020 17:25

Following as I have a high anterior placenta and am yet to feel anything at all (I'm 21+1). This is my first baby and it's so hard to know what's normal or not.

Birdy1991 · 03/04/2020 18:28

@sel2223 I'm the same but 23+1... I rang the midwife today about the lack of movement and she said to ring back if I still haven't felt anything at 24 weeks. Fingers crossed for us!

Ladies, do you know what difference it makes if the placenta is high or low in addition to anterior?

JanewaysBun · 03/04/2020 20:41

I had one of each (one anterior one posterior) and it felt the same both times tbh... some days lots of movement some days hardly any

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 03/04/2020 21:05

I have an 'upper anterior placenta' and I felt flutters at about 17 weeks, from about 21 weeks the kicks have gotten stronger. Now at 23+5 weeks I'm getting booted very consistently. Can see stomach moving etc.
He does seem to have very active days and then some days he's a little quieter.
This is my second baby, but had my first 20 years ago.

Doubl · 03/04/2020 21:46

I'm 30 weeks, anterior placenta but I don't know the actual location. Movements are quite pronounced most days with very clear movement from the outside. Rare days, the movements are a lot duller, I assume from a change of position?

I didn't feel regular movements or much until about 22/23 weeks in this pregnancy!

P5zcfz8F · 24/09/2020 23:16

I am 33 weeks. Some says I spend all day making baby move by giving it sugar + lying, seating touching my belly. Others it kicks all the time. I had been in once for reduce fetal movements... but was on the verge of going many times. Movements got better from 31..thought still odd days. Can't wait for it to be over, this is so stressful
