I have 4 children aged 20, 18, and 15 and 5 all with my ex husband, I have had a new partner for the last year he is 42 and has no children. We have decided to try for a baby I will be 41 if I get caught straight away. I am dreading telling people as don't want to see their reaction. Do you have any other children? Congratulations xx

Furbabymum15 · 02/04/2020 19:01

Awe I'm sure you will be fine Hun ( what people think doesn't matter) just be happy. No this would be a first, I fell pregnant for 1st time at 35 but got awful news at the 12 week scan. Never tried again but wow what a surprise 😂 I'm just trying not to overthink and take one day at a time so fingers crossed x

I'm 37 and have a 20 year old. I'm now 24 weeks pregnant with and it was a crazy surprise but I've got my head (and heart) around it now.

It os extra stressful though in these times. Cancelled appointments, GP closed, partners not allowed at scans etc and probably birth. If I had known what was coming I would have delayed a while but baby is coming now regardless!

Aww Congratulations ❤️ yes it's strange times but there's light at the end of the tunnel x

I had my first 6 months ago at 41.5. Easy pregnancy apart from well controlled GD and easy birth.
My age was considered unremarkable by all the people I saw, there were lots over 40.
Congratulations!

GingerScallop · 02/04/2020 19:23

I had my first at 40 years, 9 months, 9 days Grin (just calculated on timeanddate) and last week I had a surprise bpf 42.5 y.o that I am anxious about (I had two miscarriages before the first). It doesn't matter what others think and am sure attitudes are more positive these days than decades ago

Congratulations and enjoy this wonderful journey

Me!!! TTC 9yrs, 2 losses, now IVF and BFP 3 days ago! Had a difficult time with the 1st pregnancy as it had patau syndrome. Just turned 42 and everything crossed that things go ok this time. Best of luck everyone x

Liverbird77 · 02/04/2020 19:43

42 and 24 weeks here. Will have just turned 43 when she's born.
I had my son at 41.
Didn't meet my now husband until I was 36, and we wanted to ensure our relationship would last and to get married before ttc. Not ideal ages but we are very happy!

Furbabymum15 · 02/04/2020 20:43

Oh my goodness what fab responses ladies !! I'm so happy for you all🙃 I'm absolutely anxious about every step and the terror if I make it past my 12 weeks of the amniocentesis test!!!! Did you all have it done?

I had Ds1 at 41 and Ds2 at 43. Healthy babies and straightforward pregnancies and birth. With second I had GD which I controlled with diet and exersize.

Liverbird77 · 03/04/2020 10:06

I really recommend you have a private nipt test if you can. It is much more accurate than the NHS test at 12 weeks (still have 12 week scan though).
Your results may come back high from the nuchal food test based on your age. The nipt is much more accurate and a bonus is that you can find out the sex very early should you wish.. we had ours at ten weeks both times.

Liverbird77 · 03/04/2020 10:06

*nuchal food!

Liverbird77 · 03/04/2020 10:07

**fold! Bloody autocorrect!!

Elouera · 03/04/2020 10:20

I also recommend the NIPT, but only if you discuss with OH beforehand what you would do with the results. We found out our first had pateau from the NIPT, and it was much easier to know at 11 weeks, and not be waiting longer.

I'd read a few years back, that if your combined test is higher than 1:150 chance, then NIPT will be on the NHS. It seems that this still hasn't come in though, and even then, you'd still have to wait for the combined test. I know some which have had to wait till 14 weeks for this!

stophuggingme · 03/04/2020 10:25

I had my third child when I was 42.

stophuggingme · 03/04/2020 10:27

Just also to add my NT was 1.2 at 12 weeks and my odds were 1:4500 for TS21 and 1:50,000 for the other two Trisomies

RoLaren · 03/04/2020 10:34

Had my third child aged 43 last year:
Bled between 6-11 weeks, no cause found.
High risk for the trisomies so paid privately for the Harmony test, which came back low risk.
Placenta previa and acreta resulting in a complicated ELCS.

I now feel 53 but my baby is fine!

Congratulations Flowers

Windyatthebeach · 03/04/2020 10:34

I met a new dh and had a dc at 43.2.
Age gap of 6 years between baby and last dc.
I didn't have any tests - not even nuchal although they did tell me all was fine..

Megan2018 · 03/04/2020 12:51

I had NIPT at just over 10 weeks, was 1/10000 for all things tested so didn’t have the combined test or any other testing.
Was well worth it.

Secondsop · 03/04/2020 13:59

I’m 23 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child, and I’m 44. It was a complete shock as I thought I was well past it (other children are 5 and 7). I had an early miscarriage at 42 and thought that was my body’s last attempt. I was and remain anxious about it but I am taking it one day at a time. My anomaly risk after the nuchal scan came out at 1-141 for downs (bearing in mind I’d walked into the room with a much higher risk) and I was told that that was classed as low risk for the rest of the country but at King’s they classed it as intermediate risk and offered the harmony test. Which I took them up on, and that came back with a risk of less than 1:10,000. So I’d recommend getting the harmony test if you can. I already have other complications (diabetes and high bp) but to be honest this pregnancy has been so much easier in many ways - after an early spike in sugar levels things have stabilised, and my blood pressure is better than its ever been. Good luck!
