Hey all, new here. First time pregnancy - although my midwife has been a massive help most questions I’m trying to find out for myself as she’s on call during this mad world pandemic!

Just wondering if anyone else had lightening crotch disaprear, it started at 35 weeks I’m now 38+2 , she dropped on Sunday and I’ve had no lightening crotch since, where as before it was everyday!
Any ideas if this is normal? Nothing on google!!
Thanks!

Is it the same as the fanny daggers, related to javelin arse??

What is lightening crotch?

msmith501 · 02/04/2020 16:09

Is it one that is turning a lighter shade or one with sharp dagger like pains? Or something else....

Shock???

This will be educational.

I think we are all meant to google it.

I’m in the UK so maybe called different, it’s when baby’s head is pushing on cervix, encourages cervix to soften Hmm

I suspect many of us in the UK have not heard of it.

Here a link which suggests something slightly different to OP - maybe it's a terminology thing?

I know what you mean by lightening crotch, although i'm not sure why it would stop if the baby has dropped, i'd expect it to get worse. Mine definitely did to the point it was a shock anytime I felt it! Not pleasant lol
Maybe baby has moved off a nerve?

Chollie2012 · 02/04/2020 17:27

Msmith501 that’s exactly it.

Greeniee hmm okay, she’s still squirming away and can feel her ‘down there’ just no sharp pain. Perhaps she has moved off a nerve!

Sometimes helps if you do some different type of moving: hips higher than knees when you're sitting, but don't sit too long.
Go on all fours can help and don't slump in your chair.
Be conscious of your posture and do little and often exercise.

On mumsnet it is commonly referred to as fanny daggers ! It’s very much a thing !

Chollie2012 · 02/04/2020 22:38

Not heard of this before, didn't experience it myself during my own or supporting family and friends during their pregnancies. It sounded to me like a cosmetic procedure or another way of saying fast worker! Every day is a school day on mumsnet and at home at the moment.
