Travelling from UK to France with a 1 month old baby??

Hi everyone
Sadly due to this pandemic one of my best friends has postponed her wedding, which means she is getting married on 10 October (all going to plan). Our first baby is due end Aug/beginning September. I guess latest she could come is 15 September as would probably induce at 42 weeks. So there is a chance she will be only 3.5 weeks old when the wedding happens, but she could also be 4 or 5 weeks old or even 6 weeks.
What do you think - is this incredibly unrealistic? Has anyone travelled with a baby that is only one month or under? I really really don't want to miss my friend's wedding, she is very important to me, and I am a bridesmaid. I would be so sad to miss it.
I will (all going to plan) be breastfeeding baby and having a vaginal birth... not sure if that might make it easier...
Please tell me your thoughts

@cerealmilk how did you apply for a passport without a birth certificate? How did you get someone you know to verify the details of an unborn baby?

At some hospitals, you can register the baby before you leave btw. At which point, you use the 1 week expedited service (which involves popping to London, Newport etc) but you should get the passport about a week later.

Thank you all. So appreciate having all your responses! It seems like the passport issue could be a real blocker unless I was very lucky and managed to pull out the stops to get it quickly some people say can be possible.
And yes I agree covid might still be raging. She decided to do the wedding this year still because she could only postpone within 2020 or would lose the money. I guess if it's still raging by then they might let her push it to 2021. Gosh, what a shitty situation to be in, trying to replan a wedding in this climate. I feel for her!
Knowing me, I will likely be one of these mums who struggles a lot with sleep deprivation. I am extremely sensitive to not enough sleep already and need about 9 hours to feel normal. Lol. It's going to be hard with a baby isn't it!
I have no idea how my body will feel that soon after birth. Sounds like everyone is different and there are so many variables!
What do people think about car/plane if I was to go?
Xxx

Doable, but it might stress you out so much it's not worth it. I went to a wedding when my first was tiny and I didn't enjoy it.

Ragwort · 03/04/2020 09:11

Seriously, don’t go, without the current situation it just might be possible if you had an easy birth, could get the passport sorted, a baby that sleeps well etc etc but with everything that is happening now I just wouldn’t risk it, who knows what position we will be in by October? It will just cause you stress thinking about it, better to accept now that you won’t be going.

@islaybrigid stay positive, can it be a last minute decision depending on how the birth goes? Mine is a family wedding so I really am going to do everything I can to be there. If I can't fly because of covid then chances are that the wedding isn't going ahead anyway. I'm going to call the passport office nearer the time to see what they suggest in terms of an expedited emergency passport application. I'm not going to let it stress me, it either happens or it doesn't. Best of luck!!!

No way I could have done so with DD1, mostly as I was in so much pain for a good 4/5 weeks! My episiotomy got badly infected & was just a mess for ages! Plus, I was a bit of a wreck from struggling to breastfeed & the general shock of having a newborn!

I had my 2nd a couple weeks ago. Very straight forwards bar a big bleed. I felt awful for the first week but now I’ve healed well, I’ve been taking a big dose of iron & feel much better & on the whole could happily go about normal life (albeit on a caffeine drip). DD2 has been no real shock & I feel relaxed & relatively confident in my parenting abilities! Typically, after a quick recovery, we can’t blooming go anywhere anyway 😭

Thanks everyone. I think I am going to prepare myself for not going, assume that we won't be going, but also see if we can do something at the last minute like you say @aneliese. She is like family so I would be very sad to miss it, but I also know myself and if i'm struggling physically or mentally with a new baby I won't be able to put on an act and pretend to have fun... that just isn't me! Plus it may not even be physically or legally possible what with possible birth complications and passport timelines.
I am hoping for a good birth and will stay positive but yes got to be realistic. Plus this covid crisis is likely to still be at least somewhat present. I don't think I could handle driving with a small baby. I would want to fly but then you have the issue of germs/airlines etc. Sigh!
In the scheme of things it isn't a big deal, got to keep everything in perspective :)
