Sling/baby carrier recommendations please

Just that really... we’ve got everything else we need now but just realised that I don’t have anything to carry baby around/keep him close so I can get on and do bits round the house, etc.

What have others used or would recommend/advise to avoid? A lot seem quite expensive so I don’t want to order the wrong thing and not use it.
Thanks

Get a second hand one off ebay! Loads in amazingly good condition, some barely used.
We got a really lovely Ergo Baby with a newborn instert (used one before with my first, but gave it away as thought we would not need it anymore and paid around £20 for it.
In the ideal world you could go to a sling library and try different ones, but with no options, I think a second hand one is not too bad.

We also had a wrap around one from amazin which worked a treat when baby was really small.

  • sorry I means we sold one, and get another one for nder £20 :)

Also, loo around on social media local swap/sale groups, maybe someone is selling one cheaply?

I loved loved loved my Baby K'Tan, very similar to the also will revised Cabo

Spaceman101 · 02/04/2020 12:37

Look at the close caboo it's easy to use and good when they're very little.

bluechameleon · 02/04/2020 13:12

I second the suggestion of Close Caboo for the first few months, it is really snuggly and easy to use.

LBB2020 · 02/04/2020 13:30

I used a close caboo when baby was tiny then changed to a connecta and an ergo 360 when he was around 6 months. I bought all of them on eBay (they can all be washed in the machine so you know they are clean before using). I loved carrying my baby, we still do but have moved on to a backpack carrier now Smile

Emerald89 · 02/04/2020 14:46

Do you know anyone who could lend you one? (Socially distancing of course!) Simply as they are very expensive and some babies don't like them, it's quite an individual thing like choosing a pair of shoes

Pineapplebaby · 02/04/2020 17:44

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Local selling pages round here have been put on hold to help with social distancing and we don’t know anyone we could borrow one from but will definitely look into an eBay purchase... if he doesn’t like it, we’ll just list it again! Smile
Thanks again

Mamaruga Zensling .. my first hated being carried as a young baby but I loved the sling. It’s a carrier, so no wrapping but super soft, light & comfy.

We were gifted an Ergo360, I didn’t love it with a younger baby, found it a right faff to get on and off when baby was unsettled and bulky to sit in when they fell asleep and you could sit down! But I loved it from about 5 months when my DD could face outwards! She suddenly loved carriers once she could face out & see the world. She’d scream blue murder if we ever tried to turn her to face us 😂 our local sling library leader seemed permanently confused by my sling hating baby haha!

Darkstar4855 · 02/04/2020 19:44

I had a Moby wrap when mine was small/for indoors then used a Stokke Mycarrier outdoors. Still using the Mycarrier at 16 months so definitely value for money!

Tulio · 02/04/2020 19:46

I can really recommend wild bird ring slings! They last from tiny baby right up to toddlers, my 3 year old loves having a dance around the kitchen in it even now 😂 the poor baby hardly gets a look in!

HarrietM87 · 02/04/2020 19:47

Ergo omni 360 is fantastic - it’s the newer model and doesn’t need the infant insert. I used it from birth and still use it occasionally in the back carry format now my son is nearly 2. For the first 6 months I barely used the pram. I’m pregnant again and I think I’ll get a close caboo or similar for indoors in the early months as I’ll also have a toddler to deal with so could do with being hands free!

quarantinevibes · 02/04/2020 19:49

I had the baby k tan with ds and I didn’t like it at all, it has very good reviews though and it’s quite affordable. I ended up swapping to the ergo baby which I loved (360 so you can have it front facing too, mind you I didn’t reply use it forward facing so might want to save some money and get the normal one)
Also I’ve heard the Nuna is really good too .. there was a deal on online 4 baby last week is was down to £60 from £150. I’m kicking myself now as I held off purchasing! Hoping it goes down again x

DiL wanted the Sollybaby wrap and I looked at how simple they are and made one. I actually made two, slicing down the middle of a 6m length of cotton jersey (which is Tshirt material) in her favourite colour. She put him in it for the first time this week at just a few days old.

They don't need a hem or any stitching, you just narrow and curve the ends for tying and pop a marker in the middle. If you don't mind a central seam you could make one from a 3m length cut lengthways and joined. I bought the fabric online via ebay where there are dozens of colours to choose from.

MmmNutella · 02/04/2020 20:15

We bought a fabric sling for when DC was newborn, it was an AMA wrap £35 I think.

Used it so much we invested in a Baby Bjorn carrier www.johnlewis.com/babybjorn-one-baby-carrier-2018-grey/p3459508 it was pricey but used it everyday. Will be using for DC2 too.

Shame sling libraries won't be running at the mo, but second hand would be an option as think most slings and carriers are machine washable.

Megan2018 · 02/04/2020 20:21

Close Caboo for newborn around the house.

Ergobaby 360 Air mesh for later.

Both available 2nd hand

TheCraicDealer · 02/04/2020 20:53

I used the ergobaby omni 360 from birth with DD. It was a lifesaver when she was tiny and suffering with reflux. I decided on it due to comments on here and then bought it when I was pregnant as it was well reduced in a mamas and papas event. It does get pretty toasty, even in Northern Ireland, so I would go for the air/meshy version if that's an option. That being said we're just back from Florida and I used it a lot there comfortably.

I was warned on our antenatal group that there's a huge amount of fakes of the pricier brands going secondhand online, particularly eBay, so choose a listing with caution if that's where you ultimately buy from.
