Hi ladies,

I just wanted to share this for any first time mammas.

This is my first baby and I have quite a clear idea of what I would like to happen - however I am completely aware that this often goes totally out of the window and you just have to roll with it!

Anyway this book is REALLY good! It’s not patronising and it gives you a really good breakdown of what to expect and what’s going to happen and all your options from pain relief to cutting the cord.

I’m quite straight forward and have no interest in affirmations, hypnobirthing or being told that giving birth is like transcending to a primal state and my contractions are to be enjoyed and give me power.

This book breaks everything down very clearly and pragmatically and also with a good dose of humour - just wait till you get to the part about the A-Z pain relief and she gets to “flicking the bean”.

Anyway If like me you just want a bit more knowledge of what to expect I would highly recommend this!!

Xx

Second "Expecting Better", it was the only baby book I could tolerate Grin

Ahaha I just messaged my friend who’s a month ahead of me saying “expecting better” had been suggested and she replied:

“Already got it mate, it’s like the bible for the cynical, snarky mums”.

Think this may be right up my street 😂

Yay hope you like it OP! I read it in a couple days :)

One caveat, she is in the states so some slightly different things than we would have in UK. However she is from the UK I believe and does talk about the UK side heaps so it's very balanced. The main thing which seemed different was in the states they apparently don't let you snack during your labour at the hospital. But it seems they do in the uK!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 03/04/2020 12:36

@islayBridge I'm in the US, and they ask you not to snack but they don't actually stop you Grin

Update for the interested: induction was fine! Much quicker than I anticipated. Did the lot with one dose of paracetamol and dihydrocodeine, and gas and air. Having no plan whatsoever was also fine!

@Persipan congratulations mamma!!! What did you have? Was it your first?

Glad you had a good experience! And hats off to you for being low maintenance and going “plan free” :)
