18 weeks pregnant. Can't get through to doctor or midwife.

Having extension done. DH is about to stop all the work as builders keep coming in the house and can't guarantee my safety. All suppliers have closed down so work has slowed right down, the house is not weather tight, we have no kitchen, and we've got a 2 year old to look after as well.

Looking at having to have the house like this for the foreseeable future, and if the restrictions continue, I cannot continue living in the house like this. I need a safe, clean, warm house with a kitchen, and the house is currently none of those things. I can't face the idea of having a newborn in the state thats it's currently in.

Only possible option we have is to move in with the in laws at the other end of the country. Would only go if after 2 weeks of us in isolation resulted in no symptoms etc. No other family nearby. Can't rent somewhere as we've both taken paycuts to avoid being furloughed. All savings tied up with the work to the house.

Can I change where my antenatal care is, and where I potentially give birth? Even if it's a completely different county? It's breaking me even writing this. I don't want to leave my house. But it's just not safe. The state it's in was meant to be temporary but we've been like this for two weeks and now it's looking like it's going to stay like this indefinitely. I don't know what to do.

Yes you can. Lots and lots of women move house while pregnant and it’s not an issue at all - you’ll need to register with a GP at the new address ASAP and they should then refer you onto midwives. Having personally done this and encountered a complete farce with my notes, I’d be requesting a copy of your notes from your existing midwife team so you can physically take them to the new team. Poor you. It sounds really stressful Flowers

Thanks for replying @BadgertheBodger

Moving is the last thing I want to do but with no end in sight with the virus or having a safe house to live in it's looking increasingly likely that will be our only option. I can't believe the timing of it all. When we started the build the virus didn't even exist. I'm so scared of being in a completely different part of the country in an area I don't know, with a midwife/antenatal care I don't know, but it's starting to look like I'm not going to have a choice.

I moved 3 weeks ago (at 29 weeks)
Easy peasy!
Register with a new GP... get a referral to midwives, or get the number and call them yourself, and then you will have to do another booking appt.

Thanks @Dullblue Both you and Badger have made it sound quite simple, I was getting worried it would be really complicated.

Thanks for the advice, going to speak to in laws and their doctors and see what we can sort out x

You may need proof of address for new address to register at the GPs but it’s pretty simple to do it on most banking apps then you can generate a statement
