Read another thread asking for sleep tips so I thought I’d invite everyone to share their best ones here?

Mine are:

  • mattress toppers are great but expensive- cheaper option is to use a spare duvet /buy cheap synthetic new one and put on top of mattress, under your sheet. In my last pregnancy I had 2!
  • I think pregnancy pillows are worth the investment: mine is feather, straight & about 5ft long. I lie on my side and It supports my upper arm and whole leg right down to my ankle. Was a game changer for me
  • if you haven’t bought new pillows in a while, consider spending money on the best you can afford? I bought a down pillow for £100 - ruddy expensive but made a huge difference. Have suffered less with headaches since I bought it

I just roll from one side to the other. 36 weeks.
I have a breastfeeding pillow which I use as my third pillow and feel comfortable with it.

DH has decamped to the spare room - I miss him but we are both sleeping SO much better!

Sleeping in middle of bed, one pillow under head and one pillow either side of me to support my back and go between my legs, easy to roll over in night and quick pillow reposition. I did buy a v-shaped pillow which I've used at times, but this is what's working at the moment.

Two maternity pillows - one on top of each other. One just wasn't cutting it!

I slept upright last night leaning on 4 pillows and it was the longest uninterupted sleep of my pregnancy so far (I'm 38 weeks). I got a whole 7 hours! Usually I sleep on my side and wake every hour to change sides due to the hip pain

UnrulySalvia · 31/03/2020 08:15

Duvet under the sheet, definitely.

So far I'm doing ok with 3 normal pillows, one for legs (between ankle and knee), bump and head. I'll consider buying a 5 foot one later.

Sorry to get all animal rights-y but if you're getting a down pillow make sure it's ethically produced (not live plucked).

I’ve got a 12ft pregnancy pillow; bump rests on one side, the bottom half goes between my legs and the other half of the U goes up my back to stop me rolling onto my back. (If that all makes sense!)
I still wake once a night to turn over but because it’s a 12ft pillow, I just replicate the position on the other side.

Sorbet18 · 31/03/2020 10:36

What stage did you find you needed pregnancy pillows etc? I'm 25wks at the moment (first pregnancy) and so far sleeping as normal, however I am a light sleeper and have had insomnia in the past so want to avoid this becoming a problem again if at all possible.

Did becoming uncomfortable at night come on suddenly or more gradually? Just thinking if I should try & order pregnancy pillows ahead with the current situation, at the same time I didn't want to waste money if I don't need them.

Pineapplebaby · 31/03/2020 12:17

I think I started using mine around 26-28 weeks. I started with just an extra normal pillow to support my bump but then got uncomfortable quite quickly after that. Depends how you’re carrying I guess; once my boy was lower, my belly felt a lot heavier all the time which is when the pillows were most definitely needed!

Hi, I've been having awful nights recently! One thing I've done religiously is stick to sleeping on my left side, but have developed hip / glute pain on that side, and in the night I get so blooming uncomfortable am desperate to change position. Is it okay to roll over to your right hand side?

Pineapplebaby · 31/03/2020 16:24

I spend half the night on my right side due to an old shoulder injury and it’s absolutely fine.
The latest guidance from Tommy’s says on your side is best, and either side is ok.

Thanks @Pineapple

Indigogirl88 · 31/03/2020 17:28

I'm only 13 weeks but I've been feeling jiggly as I toss and turn a lot at night, I've been looking at the wedge pillows to help support my growing bump

toomuchteaandcake · 31/03/2020 17:35

I've been sleeping the way @Pineapplebaby suggests since about 10 weeks. I'm now finding the pregnancy pillow isn't quite supportive enough so I have an additional pillow between it and my back and sometimes one between my legs. It's pretty ridiculous but anything that helps!
