Consultant led or midwife led - how do you know?

Hi everyone

I'm 15 weeks, and keep seeing people saying they are "consultant led" and I have no idea how you are meant to know? I haven't met my midwife yet, and obviously with everything that's going on it isn't looking likely that I will meet her for the forseeable future (in-person appointments are not happening).

I know nothing about pregnancy and birth etc. and don't feel I have anywhere to find things out. Google has failed me for this question, so I'm hoping you guys can help!

I just got a letter giving me an appointment (likely a phonecall) next week, and apparently it is with a consultant, so now I'm wondering if that's normal, or if there's something wrong.

Thanks in advance for your help

Are you overweight? Previous underlying health condition? Previous problems with pregnancies? If no to all, you’re likely to be midwife led.

Consultant led usually means you’ve answered yes to one of the above.

Next week (when you’re 16 weeks) you’d be due a midwife contact I think from what I remember.

Thanks for replying!

I'm a normal weight and this is my first pregnancy. I have a few underlying health conditions but nothing major (although one of them increases risk of gestational diabetes). It was being told that next week I have a consultant appointment (instead, like you say, a midwife appointment) that threw me!
