Are fast labours hereditary?

Hi ladies!

Hope you're all keeping well! Just a quick question: are fast labours hereditary?

The only reason I ask is because my maternal grandmother and my mother both laboured really fast (2-3 hours from first twinge) and my mother was told that if she was to have any more children, she would not make it to hospital in time.

This is my first child and I was just wondering what everyone else's experiences/thoughts were on this?

Keep safe!

I wish it ia hereditary. My mum gave birth to me in no time. 🤰🤞

In my case, no.

Both times I've been less than 3 hours.

My mum was my birthing partner and the first time she was quite shaken. She was a full 24 hours with me and only slightly less with my brother.

The second time she was more prepared and we barely made it to the hospital in time.

No, my mum was in labour for days, i was for less than 3 hours.
I have however been told any more children will be ever quicker!

My grandma, aunt, mum and I all had really fast labours- I so think these things run in families.

Delbelleber · 30/03/2020 14:43

My mum had all 3 of her kids v quickly, less than 3 hours. I was in labour for 3 days and had an emergency section.

annlee3817 · 30/03/2020 14:43

My mum's first was around 22 hours, 7 hours with me (was induced) I was in labour for just over five hours from start to finish

userabcname · 30/03/2020 14:44

Not for me. My mum had me in 7 hours and my brother in 5 hours. I laboured for 38 hours with DS1. Had an ELCS with DC2 which was much easier.

My mum had no problem pushing out babies but EVERY other woman in my family, both sides, had a c-section due to not progressing. So I wasn’t surprised when it happened to me.

No, my mums labours were really fast (I was nearly born in the toilet and shot out after 45 minutes?!!!)
My sister was in labour for 30+ hours

TrophyCat · 30/03/2020 14:50

I have very similar labours to my cousins (from my dad's side). Kind of period like cramps at the beginning. When they start to hurt a baby shoots out about 20-30 minutes later.

Apparently having a fast labour is usually dependent on the shape of your pelvis, so I can see how it could be the same for you if your mum had a quick birth. It's not guaranteed though as you don't know which genes you inherited from your mum. In the same way, other pelvis shapes can make labour slower and increase the chance of a c section.

No my mum was in labour for over 24hrs with me and my 3 siblings. I had very fast labours - my quickest being 11 minutes!

Chasingsquirrels · 31/03/2020 08:27

My mum's were about 7 hours.

Mine were (1) 2 hrs (2) 15 mins.

Megan2018 · 31/03/2020 08:28

No

My mum had 2 EMCS as after long labours she failed to progress.

I had ine in 6 hours
