Hi my previous pregnancy’s were natural birth apart from my last as he decided to come at 34 weeks ended up having emcs my consultant has given me the choice this time but I’m so confused and just want to be safe as I can , at how many weeks do they do a planned one?? Also is the recovery better than emergency as my recovery last time was awful and took ages to recover ok petrified of another pre term has anyone gone on to have normal delivery after a pre term baby?? Sorry lots of ?? Xx

I had an Elective section at 39+5 after an emergency section and was told they wouldn't go earlier than 39 unless I went into labour.

Recovery was a bit slower than my first but I put that down to age (mid 20's - I was a teen first time round 🤣) and was back to normal with 1.5 mile school walks twice a day from 4 weeks. Although I did take it slow!

I've had two elective so can't compare to emcs but I was recovered by day 4 both times. First was done at 40 weeks exactly second at 39.

I'll be having an ELCS after an EMCS with my daughter 7 years ago. I've also been told that it's unlikely to be scheduled before 39 weeks, despite LO appearing at 37 weeks.

I genuinely believe that I'll go into labour again around the 37 week mark and have discussed it with the obstetrician. We'll see what happens, I guess.

This is what I’m scared of say she decides to show an early appearance will they still be able to do the c section I’m really scared of another emergency one x

I laboured for 28 hours before my EMCS. I expressed my concern about a repeat performance. They assured me that, this time, they won't allow that to happen and will whisk me off for a section straight away. I'm not entirely convinced!

I'll speak with my midwife and GP before my appointment with the specialist and see what happens.

We'll be fine x

I've had an ELCS agreed due to MH issues. They say it will happen week 39 unless it comes early in which case I'll go straight into a EMCS.

However- is anyone due during the lockdown? I'm due end of June and worries that ELCS won't be allowed anymore??

Elective sections will carry on as normal during lockdown

Caitlin2020 · 30/03/2020 11:06

I’m due the 19th July but so worried I’ll go early again it’s all a bit worrying x

I'm having an elective in 6 weeks after my first ended in an emergency.
I've heard such positive things about electives, much calmer, quicker recovery time.
And if you go in to labour early they take you in and although it's classed as an emergency it's different because you know that's what you are having so you are mentally prepared and also have what you actually need. X

I was booked for an elective on the back of a traumatic first delivery. However I went into labour a week early and in the middle of the night. The only surgical team were already doing an emergency when I arrived and I progressed so quickly that, by the time the surgeons returned, I had already given birth (four hours start to finish) and that was a major hospital serving a large area.

Caitlin2020 · 01/04/2020 18:25

Wow this is my worry I won’t make the 39 weeks for the c section I guess I’ll just have to let be what will be x
