Anyone worried their elected C will get cancelled?

Hi Mums

Mine is booked for 3rd July.. it's a bit of a way off but don't see things getting any better any time soon.

I've been told my midwife and a surgeon friend that it will be fine as it's not the same kind of 'elected' surgery as the ones the NHS are cancelling - as it's not like you can put it back - but I'm not convinced.

I'm considering borrowing some money to go private.

Anyone else have same concerns or been told anything?
thanks
Annabel

Great to know if any of you have an

Your friend is right. It can't be delayed. The baby has to cry out. It's not the same as other elective surgery.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/03/2020 19:57

Come out. Not cry out!

daisy129437 · 29/03/2020 19:59

Mine is due 8th May and I spoke to my consultant the other day who assured me it will go ahead as it is not the same sort of elective surgery that can be cancelled. Try not to worry.

fairgame84 · 29/03/2020 20:08

Elective csections will not be cancelled.

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 29/03/2020 21:31

I'm terrified too, logically I know it's highly unlikely but I'm still terrified. Mine will be around 19th of July and I'm just trying to remain positive

Mummyspider27 · 29/03/2020 21:55

I honestly think it will be fine. Mine is scheduled first week of July and I am confident all will be fine. I think the stress of boring that money (upwards of £10k) will be worse. Maybe call your midwife or consultant to reassure you xx

FirstTimeBumps · 30/03/2020 07:56

I'm going to request an elective section after an EMCS. I'm not due till October. I'm scared they're going to stop people requesting them. All the hospitals say "if you are scheduled for" bit what about people who aren't in that boat yet Confused

Nicecupofcoco · 30/03/2020 08:01

Hi op, I've been told that it won't be cancelled... Possibly moved back a day or two if it needed to be, due to staffing etc, but not cancelled.

ChipsAreLife · 30/03/2020 08:14

They won't cancel elected c sections, for many people that would be very unsafe and result in tragic consequences. Do you really think that would happen?

I would speak to your consultant and midwife for reassurance.

DoveOfTheWoods · 30/03/2020 10:54

I'm worried about this too. Date booked end of June, agreed with senior consultant due to MH reasons. I honestly don't know how I would cope it they said it wasn't able to happen anymore. I've not had any such reassurance from my hospital as yet.

AbelMartinez · 30/03/2020 11:32

I'm seeing my doctor today at 1.40pm actually, will keep you posted.

thanks
Annabel

They won’t cancel elective sections. They are a time sensitive operation, not something that can wait 6 months or whatever. A lot of electives are essential for whatever reason (placenta previa, previous traumatic delivery, malposition, twins not suitable for vaginal birth etc.) so cancelling the surgeries would just mean doing potentially more complicated and dangerous emergency surgery in labour. The only thing that might happen is that occasionally surgeries get moved or postponed by a day or two.

Whoareyoudududu · 30/03/2020 13:20

Elective c-sections are necessary surgery so won’t be cancelled.

Needallthesleep · 30/03/2020 13:33

@FirstTimeBumps I was worried about the same, but when I asked my midwife last week at my booking in appointment it was a fast ‘yes of course’ to an ELCS, as there is a risk of rupture if you have a VBAC.

AbelMartinez · 30/03/2020 13:55

@firsttimebumps thanks for the feedback. This is my first baby though so Im not VBAC? But hopefully approach of keeping them will apply ro all

@AbelMartinez what did they say at your appointment? X

AbelMartinez · 30/03/2020 21:18

I didnt see the doctor.. they said they didnt have my appointment :( And so it begins!

I had a scan which was great, he is growing nicely.. but they said they had no record of a C section. I booked an appointment on thursday to see the doctor so can hopefully sort it out, but annoying it means an extra trip to hospital whilst trying to limit extra trips
