Elective C-section cost

Hi everyone,

I am 15 weeks pregnant and planning to do an Elective c-section, but having had a look at various hospitals here in London, they are quite expensive when all fees are added. Has anyone else found a cheaper solution to an elective c-section or any advice you can give me please?
I live in London but am also close to Surrey.

Thank you
Desi

Hello - you're actually allowed to have an elective on the NHS so I think your first point of call should be to talk to your health practitioner about it. Depending on the hospital they might still say no but I know a couple of my friends had no problem getting one set up.

Now the problem is that with corona I inside these kind of elective surgeries will be hard to come by!

Thank you for your advice, I will check with my midwife.

Hi there. I have my c - section booked on NHS. No questions asked. BUT i'm getting very worried that they will cancel.

I did a lot of research and Kingston was about 10k... much cheaper than London hospitals which were about 14-20k. good luck!

Hi Abel,

Which hospital did you book your c section at?

Thanks :)

Elective c sections have to be signed off by a doctor and you're usually required to see a psychiatrist first before they'll book you in

I have to warn you though.....I always wanted a c section and had one due to a breach baby....now permanently infertile following two near fatal ruptured ectopic pregnancies.....c section caused adhesions/scar tissue to destroy my tubes

If I had my chance again and if it wasn't medically required to I would never risk having a c section again

So sorry to hear about what happened to you.. that's awful. I did a lot of research and felt there were a lot of risks with vaginal birth as well so i was comfortable with risks of a c section. They did ask if i wanted to see a psychatrist but i politely declined. I think that at 40 years old i had obviously thought it through.. and at my age it is apparently the safer option

@itwasalovelydreamwhilstitlasted Mine has been booked by St Marys in Paddington. When i saw the doctor i was expecting to have to justify my reasons . But she just said ' your body your choice'. I think Queen Charlotte is good too... its part of same group. I think some hospitals try to put you off because its more expensive.. but ive read in the long run it saves them money when they outweigh complications of childbirth. Anyway all a personal choice :)
