Mucus plug vs discharge

Is it very obvious which one is which and do you definitely know when you’ve lost your mucus plug? Do you tend to lose it at around 38 weeks?

Yes, you might get some cramping like period pain and it's very mucus like and watery with a little blood in it.

Discharge is usually white and creamy or watery.

You'll definitely know if it the plug, goggle mucus plug and you'll see the difference.

Hope all goes well for you if it's the start 😊

When I say watery it's more like a stringy stretchy substance like cervical mucus when you ovulate but wider and longer

I didn't think I'd know it if I saw it but I did. Mine looked like a massive phlegm with streaks of blood all held together (sorry sounds gross but it's what it looked like). I gave birth 12 hours later. I was 39 +5 when I saw it.
With my second it either didn't come away or I flushed it without realising. It doesn't always come at 38 weeks but it's a sign that labour might be soon.

You will definitely know if you see it.

I lost mine at 21 weeks and it was very obviously different to discharge. It regrew after. When I went on to have baby, I was checked at 00:30 when in labour in hospital and was 2cm dilated. Lost my plug at 3/4am (after my waters went...!) and baby was born at 7:53am so you may not see it before you go into labour. Equally some women see it and labour doesn’t start for weeks!

I didn't noticeably lose my plug with either pregnancy. No BH either.

Thanks everyone. I’ve been getting quite heavy discharge for the last couple of weeks, but it’s definitely more creamy/watery than stringy and stretchy.
