Anyone any tips to ease heartburn Ive tried all the usual over the counter medicine, milk, plain yoghurt. Anyone any other suggestions? I’m only 26 weeks and for the last 2 weeks it’s been getting worse but today is the worst! 3rd pregnancy and never had heartburn this bad with the other 2.

I am looking after the same advice. I'm 13w3d and my heartburn is herendous, especially in the evening/night.

Mine was awful between weeks 10-15 so I can really sympathise, although is slowly getting better. I necked gaviscon, ate dinner a little early and had a small hot chocolate most evenings before bed which somehow helped.

My heartburn was so bad with my DS that I ended up having to get omeprazole from the GP. It worked wonders.

Yes I had this in my last pregnancy.
Eat smaller meals and leave plenty of time before you go to bed - maybe an hour or two or more.
Prop your pillows/bed up, so that your upper body is slightly raised if you possibly can?
I occasionally took Nexium and found it helped
Also chewable remegel is less disgusting than some of the other options!

Omeprezole and peptac (minty one) prescribed, were the only thing that helped my horrific heartburn in both my pregnancies x

I take omeprazole normally but they wouldn't let me in pregnancy. Had to take ranitidine. which does help but seems to have a cumulative effect.

Gaviscon liquid does help but you have to take a lot. DH joked that I was like a middle aged detective from an 80s show - I just needed a trench coat - as I carried bottles around with me and would just swig from the bottle at regular intervals. You can't be faffing about with a teaspoon here or there. Go big, or go home.

Also you need to start watching what you eat. People will tell you to avoid food x or eat food y but what I have learnt is that it seems to vary massively from person to person. So you need to work out what triggers you more than normal. eg, I have always found that small bowls of rice with just a bit of butter and possibly a small glass of milk can help. But for others, that's a disaster. Milk can work, but other diary products can make it worse especially cheese (for me - but I think this is a common one).

You do need regular food. something to soak up the acid so experiment with what works for you.

Good luck. And buy more gaviscon.

[omepreazole IS good - if your doctor will give it to you!]

Thank you everyone I’ll give some of the above a go!! Fingers Crossed it doesn’t last the next 14 weeks

Rennie chewables (orange flavour for me) have been my best friend for my last trimester of pregnancy - the heartburn usually goes after I have one

sel2223 · 28/03/2020 00:16

Not tried it myself but my.sister swore by tomato juice!

I didn't have any luck with fixes but prevention really worked this pregnancy. I couldn't touch tomato or anything too acidic. If I avoided the triggers then I was fine and actually had a really ok time of it compared to before! Maybe try to note down what makes it worse?
