I am 32 weeks and I started working from home this week but I'm lucky that I can.

I dont know how I would feel if that wasnt an option for me.

Delbelleber · 26/03/2020 19:06

I was told by the midwife and go that over 28w you should be automatically signed off and your employer can't refuse that.

ScouseMar · 26/03/2020 19:26

HR person here and that midwife's advice is not correct at all.

I’m 29 weeks and working FT from home with no plans of stopping. Why would I?!

Bittersweet12 · 26/03/2020 19:45

I'm currently in retail and 28 weeks still working (pet shop) social distancing is very strong here and with the lock down the shop is so quite but I'm just worried that I should be at home I don't feel scared or anything coz it's so quite but just curious if I should be

I’m 32 weeks and working from home but sitting on a dining chair that’s not meant for 8 hour days is agony to any other person let along a pregnant person with a head engaged baby

I’m going to stop end of next week

I’d rather work longer but can’t take it

Greenmarmalade · 26/03/2020 19:56

@Bittersweet12 yes, you should be at home! Pregnant women are in the vulnerable group, told to stay home for 12 weeks.

Greenmarmalade · 26/03/2020 19:57

@NemophilistRebel could you try sitting on a birthing ball occasionally? Some of my friends were more comfy that way.

Delbelleber · 26/03/2020 19:58

@ScouseMar it's government advice if you can't work from home. My midwife and gp told me and when I told me employer he said he was already aware.

NemophilistRebel · 26/03/2020 20:05

@Greenmarmalade that’s a great idea. I had been meaning to get one. Toddler will probably steal it from me but if I get two il be ok 👌🏻
Hope I can still buy them!

Bittersweet12 · 26/03/2020 20:32

My midwife said it's government guidelines to social distance, not to stay in for 12 weeks

@scousemar do you know what advice is correct? X

maternityaction.org.uk/2020/03/covidmaternityblog/

This sums up MAT rights at the current time quite well.

You'll see that employers don't automatically 'sign you off' after 28 weeks but you can start your MAT leave from the 11th week before your due date if you want. Our pregnant ladies are all working from home doing amended duties (admin) as fit and well and didn't want to start their MAT leave early. One is off sick - her MAT leave will start automatically if she's still off in the 4 weeks before her baby's due.

Pregnant women are in the vulnerable group, told to stay home for 12 weeks.

@Greenmarmalade No they’re not. The 12 week advice is only true for pregnant women with severe heart conditions. Pregnant women are meant to follow the advice which everybody is meant to follow.

Bittersweet12 · 27/03/2020 07:44

@EarlGreyT so that's just social distancing isn't it and working from home if you can? X

Yes it is. Ideally you should work from home but if you can’t then your employer should try and find you duties which means you avoid contact with other people as far as is possible.

31 weeks here and off on sick pay until my mat leave kicks in. I work in essential retail so it was impossible to socially distance. Just wasn't worth the risk. I'll miss the money but the anxiety I had from working with this going on was making me ill.

TwinkleStars15 · 27/03/2020 10:08

28 weeks would be very early to stop working... it’s completely personal choice though. During my first pregnancy I worked until 38 weeks, had her at 39 weeks which was perfect. I’ll work til 38 weeks this time too.

IDontLikeMondays88 · 27/03/2020 10:13

I’m 30 weeks and WFH. Am planning to work up to 36 weeks I think. Depends on what sort of job you do though

NemophilistRebel · 27/03/2020 10:15

I made sure I finished sooner with a second baby so I had some time just me and firstborn for a few weeks beforehand.

No reason to continue right until the end if you are uncomfortable and don’t feel you have the time to relax and enjoy some relative calm before it all starts again

Robs20 · 27/03/2020 10:17

I’m 33 weeks and wfh. Planning to work for another 3 weeks.
