I have a daughter at school already and I’m 15 weeks pregnant, I’ve worked for my company for almost 3 years, contracted 16 hours a week. It’s now closed as it’s a cafe/bar/theatre and I was only SSP to begin with due to my pregnancy and now they’ve completely closed I was presuming I’d get paid. I have been informed by my work the 80% the government are offering is to people that would be made redudant only and due to SSP being £94 a week I will not be entitled to maternity pay as my earnings from April to July would of had to of been £118 a week to qualify! Obviously I’m seriously concerned!

Not sure what to do at all :(

You should get the 80% I think until maternity leave kicks in which you would have to apply for maternity allowance which is about the same amount as smp.

Apply for maternity allowance and then you can pick the 13 pay slips where you earned the most money

Sunflower2019 · 25/03/2020 10:00

It says online that maternity allowance is either

You could get either:

£148.68 a week or 90% of your average weekly earnings (whichever is less) for 39 weeks
£27 a week for 39 weeks
£27 a week for 14 weeks

Which has concerned me as what’s the £27 about?

Can you pick any 13 slips from the last year or so??

@Mammyloveswine @dementedpixie

Thanks for your comments xx

In the 66 weeks before your baby’s due, you must also have been:

  • employed or self-employed for at least 26 weeks
  • earning (or classed as earning) £30 a week or more in at least 13 weeks - the weeks do not have to be together

The £27 relates to self employed/ people working for self employed spouse. You would be looking at the £148.68 or 90% of wages part as you were employed

Thanks @dementedpixie hopefully I will be okay! What a time for all this to happen and so much confusion xx
