Anyone trying to think positive that this might peak and things may start getting back to normal in next 8 weeks?

I'm so so tired of being worried about the next 8 weeks, how it will effect my pregnancy, birth, postnatal stay...just exhausted.

Anyone want to join me in thinking that if we manage to get this thing locked down in the next 8 weeks, things might begin to return to normal.

Positive thoughts people!

@Layladylay234 aw thank you! Hope things are looking different for you in 8 weeks

It's hard going to be positive all the time because of the unknown. I have up days and down days. I have a growth scan next week and I'm worried my other half won't be able to come in with me and I'm scared of having to go to the hospital at all (and I work for the NHS, but luckily in a role I can do from home now). BUT we will be the women who were pregnant and gave birth during a pandemic. We will have faced our fears and the unknown and held it together for our babies and that to me is just demonstrating that we are incredible mums before the babies even get here Smile

I work for the MoD. Sorry not to be positive but we are in this for many months yet.

lettersbyowl · 27/03/2020 21:03

@dementedma yes we are. So shall we all fall apart? And what, carry and birth our babies in fear of what's to come, or what it means for them? I don't want that for myself or for others. We are women and we are made of strong stuff. We can recognise the fear, face it and hold our heads up.

Of course we shouldnt fall apart! I never said that. We will come through and life, although changed will go on. I was responding to those hoping it would be over in a few weeks. It wont be. But that doesn't mean you give up.

Im due to give birth in about 10 weeks, I choose to believe at present everything will be fine by then. I am focusing on getting the house ready, enjoying relaxing, reading etc and researching baby stuff. I appreciate that it probably wont be, but its not going to help thinking about it or worrying about it for 10 weeks and making myself miserable. :)

For all those planning to give birth in 8 to 10 weeks I think by then we will be largely over the first wave of infections. Following Italy's curve we should see daily deaths peak in 2 to 3 weeks before levelling off for another 2 to 3 weeks and then dropping suddenly. I think we can expect to see some restrictions being lifted in 6 weeks time. There will probably be another wave of infections and further restrictions later in the year but it will not be as bad as the first because
a) levels of immunity will be higher in the population and antibody tests will tell us if we are immune
b) there will be better treatments available anti virals currently being developed, more ventilators and better cspacity to treat
c) Many front line workers will have already had the infection and recivered so nhs staffing levels will improve

Please try to stay positive, things will look very bad over the next few weeks but after that things should improve rapidly as the impact of the lockdown feeds through into the numbers.

tossacoin1 · 28/03/2020 10:20

@crazydiamond222 thank you for that, very reassuring to read. And I agree about the timeline. I think after these 3 weeks they might put us in same/stricter lockdown for another 3 weeks and then slowly after things will start gradually going back to normal. Government won't be able to keep paying 80% wages for a long amount of time

Layladylay234 · 28/03/2020 12:19

Thanks guys for all the positivity. Had a bad day yesterday and bad morning this morning. I'm also trying to tell myself that yes, we may start to be over the worst of it sooner than we thought. Patrick Vallance on Radio2 yesterday was quite reassuring but also cautious.

Lets carry on living in hope but being rooted in reality xxx

I think it's likely peak will be in 9 weeks and we will be under restriction until at least then. I'm mentally preparing myself to do this on my own as there will be no one to look after my son if we are in lockdown.
