Sling/carrier

Hi all,

I had planned to go to a local sling library when baby was born to test some out but in light of current circumstances I wont be going.

I'm due in 5 weeks and would really like to order one instead as the only thing i can do right now is go for a walk.

I would like one which I can use front and back with inwards and outwards facing.
I'm debating also buying one of the soft wrap slings for the earlier days.

Can anyone please suggest either one or both?

Thanks :)

I'm in the same position OP - and have gone for this one!

We had an Ergo Baby Bundle of Joy and really loved it, it was supportive and comfortable. They have different models, some allow 3 or 4 carrying positions, so may be worth checking the website to find a model you like.

I have a ring sling, an ergobaby and a soft moby wrap. The wrap is easily my favourite and most used. Here's why...

The ring sling was cumbersome and unsupportive, not to mention hot and heavy! More practical versions probably exist, but mine was rubbish (and yet stupidly expensive).

The ergobaby is probably great if one person is using it, and some people might find it more secure than a wrap, but I found it too bulky, too sweaty and still haven't worked out how to get a baby in it without help.

The moby, or any other wrap most likely, is comfy, light, easily adjustable and (crucially) easy to wash and dry. I love 'em.

I loved the kari me wrap

My local sling library are doing video sessions instead of face to face and then hire by post.. might be worth seeing if yours are doing the same!

Otherwise, if you want a carrier to do it all, you can’t go far wrong with the ergo360 .. I didn’t love it for newborn, too bulky but fab once their heads are up and they are a tad more robust!

I’m trying an ergo aura wrap for newborn this time. It gets fab reviews. It is just a wrap but it’s meant to be a good length & material. Last time I used a Caboo for newborn, not bad. Easy to use, no tying, it’s done for you!

The baby K'Tan carrier looks good and easy to use.

Thanks everyone.

Can I just ask are all these possible to put on by yourself? as don't want to get one that can only be used when my OH is around.

An ergonomic cattier is much easier to put on by yourself. I have a one and lived it with my last baby.

I also have a wrap and was managing to put it on by myself. I've never been to a library to be showed how to put it, just looked on YouTube videos and as time went by I mastered it. Found the wrap lovely especially for wearing it in the house while doing stuff.

Blackberrythief · 27/03/2020 10:12

Ditto the wrap, I used the moby one which was great for around the house once you get used to wrapping it! I use the Beco baby carrier now as it's easier to do up and for out and about!

ejmay90 · 27/03/2020 10:35

@R2D2abc which wrap did you have? ideally I want a wrap for the house and a carrier for dog walks.

Looking at the ergobaby embrace for the outside carrier as looks easy to put on and comfortable.

I have a MOBY wrap , but I also had a MANDUCA one which I liked more because it was more lightweight.
I bough both used, one from eBay and the other from amazon. They were perfect condition just washed them with some dettol too.

I have a connecta think now branded Intergra. I personally find any carrier hard going in the first few weeks as my uterus is still high, and they make me need a wee due to the pressure. Plus baby is very small and I worry about the risk of suffocating. But anyway I digress, the connecta supports and is thin so not too hot. Very easy to do yourself. I could not walk the dog in a wrap it just loosens. I personally find it ok 7-8 weeks on. You can't front face in it but that's really bad for your baby's spine. You can back carry but personally I find you can't see your baby at all, so I prefer to front carry or use a 3 wheeler pushchair.

Darkstar4855 · 27/03/2020 14:22

I have a Stokke Mycarrier which I am still using as a rear carrier at 16mo. Very comfy in all three positions and easy to put on alone. Not too hot for summer either. I used a moby wrap (soft stretchy) indoors during the first six months.

ejmay90 · 27/03/2020 16:45

Is the moby wrap easy to put on by yourself and is there just one wrap to choose from?
If not any advice on which ones best?

They're all pretty much the same and work the same way.

I choose moby as I knew it's a good brand. It's important the fabric is good. If I could choose again I would look for something organic thou as it stays so close to baby.

Great thank you :)
