Castor oil to induce labour

Hello everyone,

I’m 39 + 4 weeks I’ve tried everything to get this labour kick started, evening prime rose tablets, clary sage oil baths, sex, hot curry, nipple stimulation, hand expressing. Nothing is moving this baby. With all the madness in the world Corvid 19 I just want her here but safe. I’ve heard people use castor oil and this is my last resort my mother in-law used it when pregnant with my partner and he was delivered safe however I’ve heard it’s not recommended. Has anyone used it and did they have good or back experience? I don’t care about the laxative side of it as if I’m honest I could do with that Blush

You’re not even overdue - the baby could be another ten days.

Please try to relax. Oxytocin willl help but not if you’re stressed!

A friend used castor oil and was very very unwell. It’s not kind on your body

Baby's not ready yet... Sorry. Please don't push things along with castor oil.. The pharmacy won't give it you for good reason

It's dangerous because of the laxative effect which is what supposedly makes it work. Please look up info on youtube called evidence based birth, they have lots of researched evidence on induction methods including home ones such as castor.
You aren't term so it is quite possible baby just isn't ready yet. However if you work in increasing your oxytocin by doing enjoyable things such as relaxing with partner watching favourite film, having a laugh, trying to relax then your body is more likely to produce the hormones required for safe effective labour. This is part of reason why sex also works, as well as the prostaglandins in sperm can help thin the cervix. Sit on yoga ball if you have one, walk up stairs like a crab to encourage baby to drop into best position.
Good luck!

Don’t.

My sister was on a online birthing group and a girl on there used castor oil. Her baby became distressed and died during labour.

Being at this stage of pregnancy is tough at the best of times, but pp are right in pointing out you aren’t even overdue yet.
