Does this sound like the start of preeclampsia?

So I'm 35+6 weeks pregnant and I have two monitoring sessions a week for reduced fetal movements.

For the past week my urine has had protein in it. They gave me lots of water to drink but after testing again today there was still protein in it. So they took my BP three times, all of which was around 140/88. They said they're currently just screening me for it as I have the risk factors (BMI 34, gestational diabetic, first time mum), but I can't help but think it doesn't sound good.

Anyone?

Have they sent a urine sample and done blood tests? Your BP is borderline but not something I’d jump up and down about on its own. I can only assume you only have a trace of protein in your urine which could be contamination from vaginal discharge or very concentrated urine, it’s impossible to know. However, I’d probably want to do bloods to exclude the possibility of PET.

They did blood tests today so should get the results in a couple of days. They were concerned because my BP is normally really good and it's been rising the past week, the same with the protein in my urine it's been checked around 5 times and there's protein every time.

Preeclampsia is overly small blood vessels feeding the placenta. Blood pressure increase s to compensate but if too high organs start to shut down causing protienurea. It's fairly uncommon (but possible) to have normal for you blood pressure and protein caused by preeclampsia. I would guess it's more likely to be a urine infection (also might need treating) but you be closely monitored in case your body is just really good at masking the blood pressure changes.

If BP is rising that's the same as being high because it's high compared to your normal.

Admittedly, your symptoms, gestation and risk factors (except GD and reduced movements) are the same as when my pre-eclampsia was picked up.

It was all ok. Baby and I were both fine. I was admitted to hospital, monitored closely, then induced at term. Really try not to worry, if you do have it, it looks like it's been caught early and they'll take extra care of you.

This was me in the last few weeks before my c section - protein increasing, BP rising, but never became full blown pre eclampsia. One of my twins stopped moving and I had an emcs at 35+1

I only found this out because I felt unwell and went to get checked out so I’d say be cautious and seek advice if you don’t feel right. Mine was very non specific, I did have a headache but I just felt generally unwell

Thanks everyone. I’m hoping I don’t have it but who knows, I think I do because my blood pressure never, ever rises and the protein has been there in the past 5 urine samples and I’ve been tested for a UTI and don’t have one...

It could be. It's great your so far in your pregnancy so in case you have it you can safely have your baby earlier.

I had severe preeclampsia diagnosed at 31+3 and delivered by emergency c-section at 32.
