I'm 30 weeks today and due to go back to Nottingham City Hospital in 4 weeks to get a date for my C Section. This morning they posted up new guidelines, only 1 birth partner, elective C section dates may change, nothing massively surprising.
However, today, someone on a FB group told me their hospital trust in Essex had told her they were no longer doing elective C sections. And I freaked out. I last had a baby 10 years and had such a traumatic birth. I seriously questioned whether to continue with this pregnant because I'm terrified of giving birth. I'd just managed to calm myself down to have an elective and now I've been told one hospital trust isn't doing them.

I also got told on Monday I had gestational diabetes and we had a private scan on Monday where the baby measured big.

Has anyone else been told anything about elective C sections and what might happen? And please be kind in your responses.

I would suggest this is bollocks.

I second the pp. bollocks

The trouble is nobody knows what the situation will be like in the next few months so nobody can reassure you for definite. Anaesthetists are likely to be needed in large numbers to care for critically ill coronavirus patients in the coming weeks so tough decisions may have to be made.

Let’s hope everyone sticks to social distancing/self isolation guidelines so we can get this thing under control.

They are extremely unlikely to cancel elective CS. There might be changes in date and you may have to wait, but I very much doubt they'll force women into attempting VB when a CS is indicated.

I just don't get why someone would say that on a group specifically for pregnant women of it weren't true. What do they have to gain from it?

On another thread someone said that they would never do that, and that staff from the women's units cannot be redeployed to other departments (so midwives cannot just go and be nurses in ICU) so the anesthestists will still be available for C sections.

I spoke to my midwife on Friday about this, as well as a doctor friend in one of the best teaching hospitals in the UK (John Radcliffe). Both assured me that elective C-sections would go ahead, and that anaesthetists would be available soley for the maternity wards.

Most hospitals are cancelling non-urgent elective surgery to create capacity to treat patients with Covid-19. I suspect that someone has heard this and wrongly assumed that it includes elective C-sections.

Thanks for all who have replied telling me their experience of speaking to healthcare professionals, that really helps me.

EstebanTheMagnificent I thought she must have got her wires crossed too,and asked her very clearly, "You got told my your midwife hat elective C sections were cancelled" which she confirmed. She even told me the hospital trust. So who knows what's going on

I think what Esteban said is most likely.
