Newborn vaccines

I've just been told by a family friend who is a health visitor that there is a possibility that newborn vaccines will stop due to GP practices not allowing patients in.

I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and wondering if there is anyway I can still get baby vaccinated.

As far as I believe they don't get the first injections until 8 weeks so give or take you really have nearly 3 months and it might have all changed by then so it's just a wait and see kind off thing! X

My baby had his vaccines this week, the surgery were closed to everything else though. I would imagine that the NHS would want to be sure that babies are still covered for those diseases otherwise we'll be in an even worse place health-wise

I know someone whose 8 week old’s vaccinations were cancelled. It’s an awful mess! No advice sorry OP but I’m in the same boat as you same gestation and just lost my midwifery services

Mother in law is a practice nurse and still carrying out all immunizations.

Got 4 month olds injections done on Tuesday, health centre very quiet though not sure if that was the only thing they have kept on.

I don't know if DS will get his one year old vaccines (I appreciate less worrying than newborn). I am taking the view that if we are practising social distancing well, he won't be exposed to the illnesses. Although I am sure they will look to keep going as long as possible.

I had mine booked on the 3rd but have to cancel as I now have to self isolate.

scaevola · 21/03/2020 15:51

This is utter misinformation.

Although called 'routine' these jabs are very important (and this is the very worst time for whooping cough in particular to increase circulation)

Senior bod from PHE was doing a telly Q&A yesterday, and explicitly said that parents should still be taking infants for their jabs (unless someone is SI for symptoms, in which case rebook as soon as possible after that has ended

I’m a practice nurse. We are still doing baby immunisations as they are time critical and essential.

We have stopped doing non essential face to face consultations.

leghairdontcare · 21/03/2020 15:55

Took my 3 month old for hers last week. Surgery is otherwise locked down. Health visitor confirmed that they were a priority and would always continue.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 21/03/2020 15:56

I’m booked to have my newborn vaccinated in 10 days and was told they are high priority and will definitely be going ahead. This was at her 6 week check this week. We were the only people in the surgery from what I could tell.

bec0302 · 23/03/2020 14:34

We are due to have 8 weeks vaccines this Thursday, and the surgery has just called to cancel the appointment! And they've no idea when we can rebook again. Utter mess.
