Waters broke at 14 weeks

Hi All,
I’m new to all this so forgive me...
This was my second pregnancy, my first was a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks. This time I had an early scan and my 12 week scan and everything was going great. Then at 14 weeks exactly I got some bloody discharge. Was given an anti d injection due to Rh Neg blood and heartbeat was strong. Then the following day at work as I stood up I felt this huge gush which I honestly thought was blood however it wasn’t...
I phoned the labour ward who said to go straight to a&e and then after referral to gynaecology ward confirmed it was my waters :(
It was explained that the baby can’t survive or continue to grow now so a managed miscarriage would be required. I have now very painfully and sadly gone through this process and am at home recovering but I just can’t make sense of it all. It’s not something I’ve ever heard of before and I’m really struggling to see myself being braving enough to conceive again :(
Has anyone else had experience of this?
Thanks and sorry for the ramble.

I haven't gone through this but I am sending you my thoughts Thanks

@SunflowerV so sorry for what you have been through, that must’ve been very scary. Did they say that they would be running any tests to see why this happened? I, like you, would really want answers to.

SunflowerV · 21/03/2020 08:33

@TwinkleStars15 They said that the placenta and sac will be sent for testing but I’m not entirely sure for what. Unfortunately this was all I delivered on the ward as the labour started whilst in a&e so I think I lost the foetus there :(
They don’t start doing any tests until your 3rd miscarriage I’m told.

@SunflowerV I hope that you get some answers from those tests. I know they don’t usually do tests until your third miscarriage but I’d have thought in this situation they might have referred you earlier? Maybe visit/call your GP and ask?

I am so sorry for your loss and what you’ve had to go through Sad
Have they ever measured your cervix? It was discovered that I had a very short cervix due to a LLETZ procedure and I had to have a preventative cerclage placed. I have since been reading a lot, and my non expert opinion would be to broach the topic with them to rule cervix related issues out and ensure it is something that is monitored.

@SunflowerV I’m so sorry you are going through this. This happened to me just before Christmas at 15 weeks. We decided to continue the pregnancy and made it to 29 weeks before my little boy arrived. He only survived 9 hours because he lungs were not developed enough but he was perfect. We are having everything tested to see if we can get answers. A lot of people who experience this either have bleeding which weakens the sac, others have cervix issues and some an infection. Unfortunately you will get a lot of people who will never know why this happened. Feel free to message me or join the Facebook PPROM groups for support x

@glasha87 thank you. That’s interesting actually as I had cold coagulation (using a heat probe to remove cancerous cells) some years ago now so I wonder if there’s a link? I had just started to have fertility tests before I fell pregnant so I think I will go back to my GP and follow this up.

@TwinkleStars15 I will definitely follow up with my GP. Hopefully this stupid virus situation will disappear soon and the surgery will open as normal again!

@Honey1989 I’m so so sorry to hear that this happened to you too and so sorry for the loss of your little boy ;(
In all honesty I think I’ve accepted the fact that I will probably never ever know why this happened it’s just so hard to come to terms with what you can’t understand if that makes sense?
Thank you... I will look up the fb group x

Similar happened to me. I bled at 8 weeks, no reason found, strong heart beat. No more issues till 12+3 lot's of bleeding a mucus, went to hospital and still good strong heart beat but my amniotic sac was collapsing. I was offered management which I declined in the hope everything would be ok (realistically I knew it wouldn't be). Then at 12+6 I went to bed feeling tightenings and woke in the night feeling my water break. About 10 hours later our sleeping baby arrived after what really was just like the early labours I had with my older boys.

I am so sorry you have been through this, it is shit and nothing can make it better, but you are not alone Flowers

@anxiouswaiting Thank you so sharing and I’m sorry that you have been through this too.
I have amazing support from my family and friends it’s just impossible to see a day that I won’t be sad right now Sad
