can any one help please?
my midwife phoned on friday to say that she had to go off for 'at least' 2 weeks - i guess it was a personal reason. She said that my antenatal care would be taken over by my GP. I'm 36 weeks pg. i have had no connact with my Gp since I went at 5 weeks to check I was pg. When I talked to my midwife about shared care a while ago she said my Gp didn't want to do it. So I was a little worried about the GP taking over my care. Anyway, went down today, and he didn't seem to have a clue. He seemed embarrased and said 'i'm starting to understand these notes' when I gave him them. he didn't measure the bump proberly, and came up with 39cm (last time it was 34cm 2 weeks ago!) felt the baby, and said it was engaged but lying back to back.

i'm soory this is so long, but I am worried - did he measure wrong, (i think he did) or should I be concerned?? what do I do, or can I do about a baby lying back to back? I've heard that it can be very painful and difficult and my loacl hospital dosn't offer epidurals. Can I see another midwife in the meantime? He said that I don't need to go back for another 2 weeks, is this right? please help - this is my first and me a my dh are worried - thanx

Hi luley, sorry that you didn't feel reassured by your GP. The bump measurements vary from person to person so I wouldn't worry about that. I had shared care between my GP and midwife, and they both had a different way of doing it, so the measurements made no sense.
2 weeks sounds about right to the next appointment to me, but if you are worried about something then you can call the hospital and see one of the midwifes there I think.
Can't help with the back to back - but I'm sure someone can soon.

There is a tread on back to back babies here tread

basically you need to spend time with your bum in the air and your head down and swim breast stroke.

The 2 weeks sounds right as does the measument - it will change as the baby gets engaged...but you can ask to see a midwife at your local hosiptal - they must do hosipital based anti-natal care.
