I know no one can answer this question indefinitely because we just do not know yet.
But I'm concerned about my pay if they do make it mandatory to isolate for 12 weeks.
Will we only be entitled to sick pay? Just trying to be prepared as I can be really.
I know we're all in this together and it's scary time for us all.
Hope everyone's ok! xx

@snch I hope it's not made mandatory, as if it's only sick pay then many people won't be able to manage and I'd then be worried about not having a mat pay entitlement and having to get maternity allowance sorted.

@1990shopefulftm I hope not to. We would really struggle. It's just still so uncertain at the moment

@snch I'm only 7 weeks and have a private scan booked for saturday assuming it's not cancelled so i've not even told work yet as I want to wait till i've had a scan.
I thought about doing the maths if I end up having to take the time off but it scares me too much.

I hope not. I'm 16 weeks pregnant and stopping work for 12 weeks would not only be very difficult financially now but would also mess up my SMP as I'd be out of work during the qualifying period.

snch · 18/03/2020 17:53

Hope it still goes ahead for you! Hopefully the government do something to protect us if they do force us to take 12 weeks off. I've never wanted to be at work so badly!

@THNG5 I'm 17 weeks so I'm in the same boat. I didn't actually realise it would affect SMP

I am currently 22 weeks and my work have told me not to go in (I work in a hotel). I am also on a zero hour contract so unsure what pay I'll get. Also right smack bang in the middle of my entitlement period for SMP, so at the moment looking unlikely I'll get that now. Spent all week stressing.

The latest RCOG guidance doesn’t make it sound like the 12 weeks applies, it’s more a case of social distancing for pregnant women.

The only people that will be forcefully quarantined are those who are actually infected, I can’t see anyone being forced to self isolate, it’s advice just for your own good.

I can’t see them actually forcing us to do anything unless you’re infected, especially since the limited evidence so far suggests that pregnant women and unborn babies are actually not at any greater risk, so it’s all just precautionary advice anyway. Implementing a lockdown for the whole population is one thing, but I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t single out certain groups and force them to stay at home when everyone else is allowed out, especially when the evidence for doing so isn’t clear, after all 12 weeks is a bloody long time and just not doable for some people.
