Patient facing NHS workers

keeponrunning85 · 18/03/2020 14:57

Any other patient facing NHS workers out there who've managed to get clear advice from their trust about what to do?

I get the distinct impression that mine are expecting me to make the decision. Have a meeting planned with my line manager tomorrow morning to discuss. I'm a consultant so that majority of my job is clinical. There's limited work I could do remotely/over the phone but I am happy to carry on working if I can.

I’m a junior dr and have been told to work from home. Doing a bit of phone consultation and some research and audit stuff. It’s not ideal, at least I haven’t got long to go until due date. How many weeks are you?

Eatsleepbakerepeat · 18/03/2020 15:08

I'm a nurse and so unclear what we should be doing
Dont know what to do for right and it does strongly seem that we are being made to make the decision ourself
I'm only 8 weeks so not telling people yet but my manager knows and if I have to go off so beit but also worried about the affect it will have on my maternity pay ;/

AAkim · 18/03/2020 15:13

I work in anaesthetics and am awaiting clarification from manager who currently has a billion things to sort out! I will patiently wait but I'd rather be redeployed to low risk even office work than self isolate 🤣

TinnedPearsForPudding · 18/03/2020 16:13

I'm an A&E nurse and I've been told to stay at home

towerse · 18/03/2020 16:52

I’m an intensive care nurse, 17 weeks pregnant and have been told to keep coming to work as normal.

Mc3209 · 18/03/2020 16:56

I am ST registrar, got sent home yesterday until further notice. Doing admin from home like emergency clinic rotas and on call rotas. Department is hoping to set up some sort of virtual thing in the meantime so could do some clinical stuff from home if required.

Nfblues · 18/03/2020 16:58

Slightly different for me as I’m longer hospital based but as a HV I have been told I still have to come in and do consultations over the phone rather than home visits. They are also considering closing weighing clinics and delaying developmental reviews for everyone just to prevent spread of the virus. I’ll probably end up doing all the admin stuff also to take some strain off my colleagues who will still do home visits.

I have heard rumours though that all community staff who are competent in acute environments will be sent back to the wards to help so that’s a bit worrying as I was initially a HDU children’s nurse. Normally wouldn’t mind but obviously being pregnant is worry after worry when patient facingConfused

keeponrunning85 · 18/03/2020 17:29

It seems to be so variable from one trust to the next.

I've got 8 weeks left at work after this one so not a huge amount of time but still enough. Even if I end up being an overpaid admin person I suppose that is something!

Those who have been told to stay at home, are you still being paid your full salary?

OP posts:
Applesandlemons · 18/03/2020 17:44

All the pregnant nurses in my trust have been sent home for two weeks on full pay.

OneIsAWorldOfBooks · 18/03/2020 17:50

I’m in inpatient MH. Have been sent home for the foreseeable future on full pay. Management have said that the trust are exploring options for me to work from home but that won’t be for a few weeks at least and I’m not sure what I’ll be doing as it’s not really possible to do my job from home, probably supporting with admin duties I think.

OneIsAWorldOfBooks · 18/03/2020 17:51

Apparently I’m our trust it’s showing on the rota as ‘Covid19’ and is completely separate from sick pay or any other leave and will be paid at normal salary for the duration.

Mc3209 · 18/03/2020 17:53

@keeponrunning85 not 100% sure re pay, I am expecting on call banding to be deducted over the period, but the base to remain the same. But who knows.

MLP123 · 18/03/2020 18:15

I’m a nurse and this evening our trust has announced the PHE have not said that pregnant women need to be off site or shielded and they expect us to come to work. Our duties will be changed so we aren’t dealing with or at risk of contact with Covid 19 patients, however I am expected to do admin alongside a team of about 40 in our department so how that fits in with social distancing is beyond me! Let’s just hope a colleague doesn’t come down with it! My other choice is to take A/L or mat leave early, something I didn’t want to do. I have 5 weeks left until I was meant to go off on A/L then mat leave. Really don’t know what to do Confused

OneIsAWorldOfBooks · 18/03/2020 18:44

I’ve just had a call saying I have to go in tomorrow for a risk assessment. They don’t know if I’m expected to work my whole shift or not. This is after yesterday then saying I will be off for the foreseeable and working from home. Now I have to go onto the ward to have a meeting about if they can make my role safe for me to do. Felt very secure all day that work was being supportive (they have not been for anything else during this pregnancy) and now I’m very anxious about tomorrow.

bobbypinseverywhere · 18/03/2020 19:18

im a GP and I'm expected to go in an do telephone triage, admin and on calls - had to really fight not to do f2f and I'm not 100% happy with still tho as I'm still in the same corridor/ using the same rooms as patients etc so don't see how thats low risk either...

6000choccybiccies · 18/03/2020 19:24

I spoke to Occupational Health on Tuesday morning and they said:

  • risk assessment with line manager/supervisor
  • decide on duties you both think are safe
  • if you can't do your job safely you are off sick and paid as such

Spoke to supervisor this morning and I will work from home for the foreseeable though not quite sure what this looks like yet.

I have a feeling this will all go out the window in the future though when things get more desperate.

Very sad for this who were happy with their situation now facing changes...

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 18/03/2020 19:25

I’m practice nurse and 9 weeks pregnant following a miscarriage. I am stressed. We are meant to be moving house in 9 days.
I’m seeing ‘low risk’ patients. I’m the only nurse in on Friday and will be seeing a few patients for dressings but not much more. I’m doing telephone triage between patients.

purpletrees3 · 18/03/2020 19:55

I'm an AHP in an acute hospital. I'm 27 weeks and have been advised to avoid +ve & suspected patients by my line manager. OH just advised to risk ax as per maternity guidelines. Selfishly want to be at home & safe and getting stressed hearing all the conflicting information out there.

keeponrunning85 · 18/03/2020 20:18

Have had an email today which basically says the trust want anyone in a vulnerable group to say what they're happy with and then it has to be approved.

I'm not really sure how to play things tomorrow. I work in a niche area, mainly in a community hospital with very low patient turnover. I think my manager will support my decision to stop the work I do in the acute hospital as will my colleague who I share the workload with.

To be honest I think my colleagues pose a bigger risk to me than my patients.

caffeinefix · 18/03/2020 20:19

I had officially advice to tell me to work from home today. I'm a HV.

sophftm · 18/03/2020 20:28

I'm a Physio + team lead and I've been forced to work from home by my manager. I'd prefer to be at work until it's made to be mandatory not to, but haven't been given a choice. Having done my first day it's not been too bad actually, I've got loads of management stuff to do, but even if I was just clinical rather than manager I'd still be made to work from home and do triage, projects etc..

Nelbert19 · 18/03/2020 20:31

I’m a medical registrar and have been taken off the on call rota and sent home for admin duties. Unclear what those admin duties are at present... I understand they’re setting up telephone clinics so I think they’ll try and organise for me to do telephone reviews/triage at home.

Currently working on some online teaching modules for the university

thosethreewords · 18/03/2020 21:53

I'm a GP registrar and so far my practice have said I can do face to face but my lead employer says I should be seeing patients except those with suspected covid-19. I'm already a high risk 3rd trimester pregnancy having scans for IUGR and under vascular at a tertiary centre so quite how they can be so confident about it not being risky for me, I don't know.

keeponrunning85 · 19/03/2020 11:00

So I've been told that the official stance at present is that if you are pregnant and well you are to continue working but not with direct patient contact.

My managers seem to be happy to facilitate me in doing that however I feel is best. I'm going to trial doing my ward round via Skype. I think I'll have increasing numbers of phone reviews to do for outpatients as other staff are pulled into working on the inpatient wards.
